Does anyone know how to cook bone in rack of ribs with no way to gauge temperature on the machine?
It was given to me. It’s very nice however there are two settings. Timer and temp.
The problem is that’s all there is!
I made chicken yesterday with it, and used the instructions
The chicken wasn’t done on the inside but beautifully crispy on the outside.
My neighbor said there should be a way to use this with not having that happen and not having to cover it. It defeats the entire purpose.
It’s older and doesn’t have all those bells and whistles. I looked for specific videos but it doesn’t address this anywhere?
I just paid a lot of money for this food and don’t want it ruined.
Ugh
Thanks
Cooking With A 12 Quart Hot Air Fryer?
so an “air fryer” is basically a convection oven. I would get a thermometer and see what temp it’s running at and adjust accordingly.
Hey! I have one! That’s a great idea. Duh! Never thought of that. I’ll just cook it low and bring it up to get it darker. Gonna find out the temp for this slab. Thank you Nelle! It’s just like my regular oven then? It cooks much faster I believe.
Common sense was lost on me
Can’t compare the two, heat is more intense and with much more force. If my convection oven could even remotely keep up with my air fryer I’d be making a ton of amazing crap.
With ribs it’s best to par boil them first then air fry them to finish them.
There’s a ton of air fryer recipes on the tube!
OK gonna do that. This is crazy this thing. I put frozen asparagus in with fresh lemon wedges and seasoning. Most delicious thing I ever ate in my life. This thing is incredible!
However I can’t figure out cook times. It’s fast. Heaven though.
I’m boiling it first.
Gotta figure out the technique for meat.
Thanks
a convection oven circulates heat with air. the air “fryer” does the same thing, There is no frying. Call it what you want, they are still the same thing even if your convection oven is on the weak side.
No, they’re not the same. A convection ovens purpose is to keep air moving around for even cooking and to eliminate cool spots which is common otherwise, an Air Fryers purpose is to use replicate a blown broil at point blank range to simulate being fried. Two different things. I worked in commercial food service for a very long time and almost all commercial ovens are convection, and you sure as hell couldn’t replicate a fryer with those. They must have all also been “on the weak side” I guess.
I have also worked in commercial food service, but as always, you know more than anyone else. Keep on keeping on.
One educated opinion:
- … The quick answer is, an air fryer is a simply a smaller convection oven with a catchy name.
Alton Brown chimes in as well. I suppose he doesn’t know what he’s talking about either.

BTW, my advice stands. See what temp your gadget is running and adjust your cook times accordingly.
Feel free to quote where I claimed that, but I know the difference between two difference appliances with two different purposes. My wife’s blow dryer has a heating element and a fan too… Is that an Air Fryer as well?
Folks, let’s keep our tempers cool, here.
no worries. Like any other site you have to learn to ignore the blowhards. I’m sure there are those that think I am included, but whatever. You’ll figure out your gadget and post beautiful pictures on the “what did you keto today?” thread. Looking forward to it.
