I saw this news article and my stomach turned over:
I don’t understand why sugar has to be added to everything and the very idea of this is just crazy to me.

Although not a total keto endorsement, it seems the tide is shifting. At least starting to head our way.
http://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/2017/06/14/truth-about-low-fat-foods.html
From the news article…
'The problem is they don’t simply take fat out. “The fat is typically replaced with sugar, sodium, additives, preservatives or thickeners to create a similar taste, texture and consistency…"
So there’s one reason. It tastes like cardboard, so add some sugar and no one will care. Because sugar.
There’s also this:
“There’s also proof that people tend to eat more of foods labeled low-fat, thinking they’re healthier.”
I have to wonder if they have the causation wrong (or that there are multiple causes), given that the sugar itself could easily explain the increased consumption. Remove the fat (and with it a sateity signal) and add sugar, and boom, more consumption.
And this:
“Clifford and Lesht recommended loading up on foods that are naturally low in fat, such as fruit, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains, and staying away from packaged foods labelled low-fat”
is pretty bizarre, given that the previous paragraph states that “experts agree it was wrong to obsess over low-fat foods, as saturated fats aren’t as bad as people once thought…”
So let me get this straight. Fats aren’t as bad as we thought, but you should eat foods that are naturally low in fat.
Incredibly sloppy. SMH.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad for the shifting tide on fat, but is it too much to ask for an article on the topic to be at least internally consistent?
Yeah, they seem to be saying low fat processed foods are the devil because extra sugar and other crap. Not really pro-fat.
Sugar production in the US is quite subsidized by our lovely government (the folks that know what’s best for us…). I’m not trying to be political here but reading this article about how badly sugar in the US is subsided makes me want to puke: https://www.atr.org/top-five-reasons-end-us-sugar-subsidies
Not only this, but our elected officials are heavily lobbied by the food industry. Why, just yesterday, with the shooting of the Reps at that baseball field, one of those guys that was hit was a lobbiest from Tyson! You know, the makers of all those mega-bags of breaded, processed chicken chunks! Sad really.
Putting on my admin hat for a moment.
Please do try to keep posts out of the realm of politics. Not saying that anything on this thread has been egregiously political, but it’s easy for passions to get the better of us with politics and similar topics.
Given the situation with regulations and subsidies, as well as things like food recommendations from government agencies, it’s sometimes impossible to avoid touching on politics, but probably best to limit as much as possible.
KCKO!
Only borrowing it briefly. Besides, I hear he’s wearing a bonnet lately:
Wow, cookies on chicken. Never would I have thought they would stoop to this. cray cray.
I love popeyes…SIGH… I wish their red beans n rice was more keto friendly. I’ve tried to replicate the recipe but no dice.
But I digress, crazy there’s so much darn sugar! Thanks for posting.
