I have been stalling on weightloss the last 4 weeks and am wondering if excersise will help. I know it’s good for me blah blah blah but I want to know if there is any science behind keto and excersise together aiding weightloss . Right now I walk for about 20-30 minutes on my lunch somedays when it’s nice out but I want to do more
Controversy on excersise and keto
I read the Keto Reset book recently and the main takeaway for me with respect to exercise was - keep it in your aerobic range (i.e. heart rate below 180-Age). If you go above this it can cause the body to have a fight/flight reaction releasing Cortisol and other stress hormones, which trigger hunger and make your body try to get energy from the protein you’re eating or your own protein (muscles).
Walking is perfect, you might be able to run but for me my slowest run will usually put me above my MAF (maximum aerobic function) heart rate unless its flat/downhill, so I run/walk with my heart rate monitor to keep it below my target. Cycling is usually better than running as your heart rate will tend to be lower for most people.
Exercise or moving is of course healthy for us. I get most of mine at work where I have a moderately active job.(walk about 5 mi a day, go up and down ladders and lift weighty freight.) I also like to walk on my own because it makes me feel good. I also think there is much evidence that weight bearing exercising is good for our bones and probably for our metabolism.
Exercise is fine, just don’t overdue it as this stresses the body and will hinder the adaption process.
It depends on the individual and what they are used to. Most of my runs my heart rate never goes above 160. If I’m really pushing it I will surpass 180, but that’s a sprint for a good half mile.
If one is in good cardio shape, running is no problem. And one can improve their cardio health by increasing workouts incrementally. If one is so inclined that is.
