Control body thermostat

Is it possible to “quickly” control the heat the body generates?

This question requires some clarifications.

We love to go (scuba) diving, typically we go slow and try to stay underwater as long as possible (60 – 90+ minutes).

The suits we wear are based on the water temperature to support this, we have serval suits to choose from, for sub artic to tropical water.

But eventually we will get cold as water absorbs loads of energy.

During my last holiday (first one LCHF), I noticed that of the group of four, I wasn’t cold, my (non LCHF) wife and two friends were cold at the end of the dives.

In the past (not LCHF) I would get cold and typically very tired from diving, now I don’t (NSV).

My first thought was that this might be the LCHF WOE, but thinking more about it and paying attention to my body “temperature” (feeling warm or cold), I don’t think it isn’t the whole explanation.

I remember that the first few (none diving) days I wasn’t warm… maybe even cold, even though the air temperature was very pleasant (25 – 28°C / 77 – 82°F).

Later during the holiday this cold disappeared and I do remember waking up very warm frequently.

I know I ate far more energy then I normally do (and don’t fast 16:8), without counting I guess more than double of what I do back at home, all LCHF as best as possible, so mostly fat and protein and limited carbs.

So that could be it, eating more energy and the best thing was, I lost 1 kg in the 2 weeks holiday

I didn’t log anything, but I guess, I took me about 2-3 day’s to move from cold to warm.

Back at home with the lower amount of consumed energy I was cold almost instantly.

From the podcasts I remember it takes time before the metabolic rate changes, up or down. If my memory doesn’t fail a body turns to “ starvation mode” after about a 72 hour fast… thus metabolic rate goes down by amongst others turning down the thermostat. Will the other way around be the same…

After the holiday I also notice that at the end of my dayly intermittent fast (16:8) window I’m cold and within an hour after breaking the fast feel nice and warm…

In addition I noticed after eating a to large portion of beef with loads of fat for dinner I woke up very warm.

Does anybody have similar experiences or any idea what would be the fastest way to hack/alter the “thermostat setting” temporarily and quickly…

What would be the main influencer, fat or protein or any specific ratio.

Some info about myself 44 year man, about 66kg (145lb), 173cm (5’ 8”) -> BMI of 22 but with a skinny fat body type/low lean mass guess between 20 – 25 BF% and we live in the Netherlands.
