Hello, I’m just curious to hear stories from the ladies in regards to their experience with any form of hormonal contraceptive and pre or post keto.

I’ve been on keto since the new year (01/01/2019) mainly to balance my hormones out/focus/energy/sleep the weight loss is going well (9lbs so far) but not my main goal.

Dr Sarah Myhill suggests against contraceptive pills etc when keto and I’ve recently stopped taking mine. I’m sick of doctors not listening to the physical and mental side effects women suffer from and I’m done trying all these different brands to be told you need to give it a year :woman_facepalming:t3:. They think pills will fix everything!

Just curious if any females are feeling the same and how your doing? (Btw ‘The Magic Pill’ on Netflix is an amazing documentary I’ve now converted my boyfriend to keto)

I quit taking the pill a Few years back also. I was told it would help regulate my hormones but I think personally after more research diet can do that and natural alternatives. The pill is bad and most people who look into discover that. I regulate my fertility with natural family planning and I’m more in tune with my body then I’ve ever been in my life because of NFP. Aside from the catholic theme of natural family planning even non religious people use it to regulate fertility because well, it’s natural. Big pharma doesn’t care about regulating our hormones they just want to profit even if it means the death of us. I remember the pill Yasmin which was a big thing years ago ended up being pulled because of lawsuits of so many women dying of blood Clots. Western medicine isn’t bad and has its benefits but if there is a natural alternative my opinion personally is it’s best to go with the way nature biologically designed our bodies. I’m glad you got off the pill, thanks for the info on the Netflix documentary I’ll have to check it out. Cheers!

Good for you for getting off of it. I’m all for the freedom that contraception brings to women in particular, but the messing with the hormones… just not worth it.

I think there’s at least one thread on here about the pill but you might have to dig around - I don’t remember the thread title.

Oh my goodness it feels so good to read your comment <3. I’ve started seeing brands in the UK being petitioned by many women of all ages, but mostly young women due to all the side effects. As a graduate in biology and currently work in medical company it’s just opened my eyes so much! especially my boss who’s totally down with all the keto stuff sadly because his daughter is severely disabled and fits all day so keto is essential for her.

I originally went on contraceptives 10+ years ago when I was 13 to control my heavy + unpredictable periods but my diet was awful then. I would like to get into using rhythm method and look into the last Q Stick that Dr Eric Berg suggests and obviously use condoms in the meantime whilst my hormones normalise over the next few months. My partner is so on board with because he just sees how much it affects me and how all these different pills changes you.

I was on the pill from the time I was 17 until I was 25. Then again for about a month in between pregnancies. It caused me more problems than I probably even know. I’ve been off of them for over 10 years now. I will never encourage my daughters to go on the pill. Hopefully I can teach them better ways (abstinence, NFP, etc) that fit each stage of their lives. Hormonal birth control is not good!

You know of course what they call couples who practice the rhythm method of contraception?
PARENTS
I speak from experience

David Stilley, lol that was funny  but Rythm method is not the same as natural family planning. NFP is just as effective as contraception in preventing pregnancy if that is someone’s goal. I have not been pregnant in over 6 years And I too speak from expierence

I recommend just pulling out. I’m terrified of the havoc and fallout of putting my body through that. I think the breast cancer rate for contraceptive is through the roof.

But then again, you gotta have a man who’s pull out game is strong and on point :muscle:

That, or the idea of changing dirty diapers and being responsible for another human being for many years to come, dampens the desire of letting one go willy nilly.

Lol the pull and pray method , oh yea and I hear ya about the whole once it really settles in sex = baby I’m like hmmm do I really want to do this …lol…NFP is good for other stuff too though besides just not getting pregnant …you can really tell once you track your cycles and become aware of your fertility if anything is “off” with your body. It’s really quite interesting. For instance the silent killer “cervical cancer” women more in tune with their cycles are more likely to see changes by tracking them through NFP.

Hiya that’s exactly what I’m doing right now I signed up to Natural Cycles (the first FDA&CE marked contraceptive app), and I totally agree I’ve never been natural since first starting my periods as a teen so this is the first time I’m getting to know my cycle and what’s norm for me.

Also update I’ve been off the pill for a month now and I feel great my mental state is just so clear and I guess normal now and funnily enough the physical aches and random pains I’d get like breast pain and things have gone! I love the new me

That is awesome I am so happy to hear! The founding father of western medicine Hippocrates said, “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine thy food!” As well as “All diseases begin in the gut.” So I think with you being off the pill and on your Keto diet things will only get better from here, congrats !
