Constipation and fiber myth

Since embarking on keto I’ve gotten used to having almost no problems with elimination. Today I was a bit constipated. I reflected on what I ate yesterday: the usual meat, eggs, cheese, a bit of tomato in the sauce, AND flax (muffins), black soybeans (in the curry), and almonds as a snack (I rarely eat snacks). Aha! Could it be too much vegetable matter? Apparently it could:

I don’t mind sticking mostly to protein and fat. The more I stay away from plant foods, the farther I am from temptation.

Interesting. I do have issues with constipation since starting Keto. I eat much less veggies than I used to, but I’m interested to see if my constipation goes away if I cut out veggies entirely. Time to experiment!

I’ve wondered how many people have reported constipation and not realized they simply didn’t have to go make a BM, they were just concerned because they’re used to making three or four a day.

Actual constipation is like the actual flu - once you’ve had it, you know about it

The only thing that constipates me is gluten, or wheat based products. Until I found Keto I had no idea that it affected me like that. Now everything is cool in that department! I don’t pong anymore!! My wife will never let me eat bread again.

One of the causes of constipation is sodium deficiency, which we are all liable to on a ketogenic diet, because the kidneys excrete sodium more readily in the absence of carbohydrate. I’m never more regular than when I keep my salt intake in the sweet spot (10-15 g, or 2-3 U.S. teaspoons, of table salt).

Fiber? We don’t need no filthy, stinking fiber!:bacon:

Ah yes the fiber myth, you’re all gonna die if you don’t eat so much fiber per day! Right, we should all be dead by Easter.

My sodium levels are good blood tests prove that but one thing about Gluten, it will constipate you if you are intolerant to it, no amount of salt will fix that!.

The less veggie bulk I eat the better my gut feels. Once I understood the obvious fact that I’m not going to be dropping the kids off at the pool every day, I became way less stressed about it.

You did that just to trigger me, didn’t you?
