hello I’ve started keto for the mental clarity and I’ve been in ketosis is there something I’m doing wrong because I don’t notice a difference mentally I’ve lost about 25 lbs but that was do to working out and eating at a deficit before I’ve even started keto I typically keep my protein under 200 grams I’m 175 lbs
Confused?
what are your daily macros (carbs, protein, fat), especially carbs?
how do you know you’re in ketosis?
Something that’s really boosted my mental clarity is the inclusion of coconut oil. I take about a total of 1 tablespoon in my morning coffees and I like to cook steaks in it. It has a really high flash point and I like my pan really hot to get a good sear without burning it, while keeping the steak medium rare to medium. I notice my brain really perks up after drinking coffee.
Just be wary that CO does cause some people stomach and bathroom issues so it’s best to start with small amounts to make sure you are not one of those people.
Even after close to four years I’ve not noticed any difference in my mental clarity, but I guess it depends what your starting point is.
How much fat are you consuming? The biggest percentage of your diet should be coming from fats but you’ve only mentioned protein (which seems majorly high for keto).
The usual protein recommendation here is 1 to 1.5 grams per kilogram of your body weight - that would be 80 to 120 grams. Probably not a problem though, unless you are getting it from powder.
As far as missing out on the mental clarity - that just might be due to where you came from. If you were working out, eating whole foods (or at least not carby foods) and in a deficit before, you might not feel this change. Where people probably notice this change the most is when they have 10s or 100s of pounds to lose and they have been on a high-carb “standard” diet. That produces a brain fog that people just live with not knowing any better. When they go Keto - with nice nutrient dense whole foods and lots of healthy fats - it is like a blanket is pulled from their head.
