Can anyone explain why my ketones are higher with higher carbs and protein?
Confused!
Please provide some additional information. Explain what is going on that lead you to that conclusion.
Give some background information as well.
The science is pretty simple, so we should be able to give you some advice with enough information from you
Been LCHF for 2 years, but Haven’t tested much. Test BLOOD, fasted, first thing in the morning, glucose and ketones. I feel awful with the recommended 20g carbs, and protein according to my weight, even though I’m fat adapted by now (2 years!) I ate higher carb and protein yesterday and my glucose went down and ketones went from 0.7 to 1.5. Higher carb meaning 50g, and protein 90g. I’m 110lb female, age 42, very light exercise (slow walks). Thanks!
That’s very interesting.
In my experience, being fat adapted means being able to ‘cheat’ and not upset the metabolic process.
Are you in the habit of testing ketone levels everyday? Or did you just want to see what the higher carbs and protein did?
Obviously, it’s not physiologically sound to eat that way on a regular basis but I really think that you didn’t have enough to kick yourself into a glucose burning state. The lower BG level could easily have been caused by the insulin response to all the carbs and protein. That means it’s doing its job, namely, storing those sugars as fat.
I’m not a doctor or a scientist, I’m just telling you what I have learned
