Completed Challenge but Need Info on BF%

#1

Hi Everyone,

I just completed an 8 week fitness challenge through my gym
I train at F45 (Function 45) which is a HIIT gym
I have been training there since the beginning of September
I have been Keto since March 2018
I am currently down 50 lbs
PS I am a 30 yr old female who has always been very athletic, even at my largest size

But we did our body composition scans yesterday as our final measurement and I need help with some info

I have a background in sport science but this is really not making sense to me

In my 8 weeks I am:
-down 13 lbs (186 lbs to 173 lbs)
-down 5% body fat
-up 2% muscle
-my visceral fat score went from 14 to 10 (which is a huge jump in the right direction)

How did I lose that much visceral fat but only 5% body fat? This is what I am stuck on

I was staying around 25g carbs a day, protein 85g, fat 115g

If anyone can give me more insight as to why my bf% didn’t drop more I would love you forever.

Visceral fat tends to get burned first - good thing too :slightly_smiling_face:

In addition to what Safi said, those scans aren’t usually all that accurate, so I’d take them with a grain of salt.

#4

is that actually true… because if it is, why is visceral fat the hardest to lose?

#5

It isn’t actually the hardest to lose if you get your diet right. It really shouldn’t be there in any significant amount so the body likes to get rid of it first.

As to you body fat - women’s bodies tend to like to keep some around for fertility reasons so in women, subcutaneous fat can be trickier to shift.

You’ve had good results :slightly_smiling_face:

you’re making me feel much better about these results as I expected higher numbers in the bf% based on the changes in my body composition and the weight loss.

my bf% is still higher than I would like it to be but that takes time

The loss of visceral fat will do wonders for your metabolic health meaning you should have an easier time losing the subcutaneous fat. Within reason of course - there is still the fact that women lose it slower!

As @juice pointed out too - bodyscans aren’t always super accurate so if you’re seeing actual changes in body composition then let that be your guide :slightly_smiling_face:

If it makes you feel any better I have lost almost 40lbs but only dropped 6% in Bodyfat from 80.8kg to 62.5kg.
