Complete newb... GI tract issues?

(Geoff) #1

Apologies if I’m doing this wrong… I’ve never seen this forum software before. I’m getting ready to start keto and was wondering if going from a high carb to high fat diet causes GI tract issues… Without getting too much into TMI land, is my colon going to start running too slow? Too fast?
Is taking fiber supplements (currently I do a small amount) going to be advisable?
Thanks in advance!!

My experience is that keto eating evened things out. As a sugar-burner I used to veer between the extremes (you know what I mean!), but things are a lot more predictable on keto. Just keep your salt intake up, and you’re golden (the kidneys excrete sodium at a faster rate in the absence of carbohydrate, so we need more. One of the symptoms of sodium deficiency is constipation.)

I had two months of running too fast - I have always loved fat but was totally overdoing the salt and the fat when I started keto. I evened out around three months.

In my case I ran a bit too fast, then a bit slower and three months in, back to normal.
