Coming up on 1 year ketoversary

(Sheri Knauer) #1

So I am coming up on my 1 year ketoversary. Ive had great results in my keto journey so far. I tracked all the foods for the about 7 months then stopped tracking since I felt I had a pretty good handle on what I could eat on a day to day basis. I keep carbs under 20g, protein between 40-60g, and Im not sure about the fat but its plenty. I find that my blood sugar runs higher than it used to (not that its too high by any means but just higher than it used to in the first 8 months) I also find that my ketone level has gone down. Now I understand that the longer you follow the keto WOE, your body adapts and only produces the amount of ketones you need so naturally the level of blood ketones would go down. I used to run anywhere between 1.5-3 mml on the blood meter.

I also use the ketonix breath meter and lately the results of that indicate Im am not in ketosis anymore. I do IF just about every day (18:6, 19:5, etc, whatever time my first meal is, which can vary) with a 24 or 36 hour fast thrown in on occasion (to get benefits of autophagy) but I do not do very well on extended fasts.

Any suggestions? Perhaps I need to start tracking again for a while? Am I focusing too much on numbers? After a lifetime of calorie restricting and yoyo dieting, its hard to get past that dieting mentality. I find that keeps creeping back into my head.

Perhaps schedule a dexa so I know exactly what my LBM is and can make sure Im not eating too much protein. Looking for a bit of guidance or just someone to say, “Don’t worry and just keto on”

You said you don’t do well on EF, but when you IF, how is the hunger? I believe this could tell all. If you aren’t getting extremely hungry between planned meals, I wouldn’t worry about it. Your body is becoming more and more efficient with time. Whose to say we won’t all quit registering ketones eventually?
