Some months ago Dr David Unwin had an article in the Daily Mail promoting low carb eating.
Hearteningly, this prompted a massive response, and this new article truly gives me hope for the future.
Comfort food to conquer diabetes
I’m 60 as well. Where are you in your journey? Keto has given me hope and a new lease on life. I love it - can’t turn back the clock but wish I had had these tools 30 years ago. As it is, I feel better than I have in a very long time.
Hi! I have been Keto for about 16 months now. I’m losing track, I have lost about 54lbs. It’s been quite slow these last months, but I feel well, and look perfectly acceptable in my clothes.
Tbh, if I pushed a bit harder I would do better. I have just left a stressful job, working nights in a busy hospital. I work days now on the Nurse Bank, less hours, and without trying I have lost about 3.5 lbs this past month. So perhaps That was partly the answer.
I didn’t really have a weight problem until I reached my late 40s, menopause etc. Or at least if I put on 8lbs, I lost it - CICO seemed to work back in the day! But then it just piled on for 10 years, lose some and gain back even more! You know the story!
What a great article! And in the Daily Mail, of all places. It’s so weird to see a tabloid embracing science, while a mainstream paper, the Guardian, has embraced a veganist agenda. I wonder how long the Times. will wait before taking sides. . . .
(You’d think the Daily Telegraph would already be on board, given the rumours that H.M. Queen eats keto.)
I posted the last article some months ago, I was so pleased to see it. Then the following week they ran another article about low fat high carb! No wonder people get confused.
What pleases me about this, is that it is due to the massive response from readers of the first article!
Dr Unwin does attend and speak at Keto conferences, but cleverly avoids mention of keto in his writing!
He was awarded the NHS Innovator of the Year award in 2016 with a saving of £25,000pa, but I see that is now reported as £50,000. Surely someone with some sense will start rolling it out as a standard of care.
It’s Dr. David Unwin, a well known keto/low carb doctor. Or at least well known to me. Twitter handle: @lowcarbGP. He’s been reversing T2 diabetes in a bunch of patients, and these are his too:
