Colonoscopy Suprep---

#1

had my colonoscopy today. I used suprep, a small volume (relatively) prep which allegedly contains only sucralose as a sweetener. No other sugar or carbs for about 40 hours till I got home — blood sugar at 149, ketomojo reading 0.3 (lowest in weeks). I’m wondering if that stuff marked saline solution wasn’t actually a vanilla milkshake based on the impact! Anyone else have this experience?

PS, if you are of a certain age and putting this off I encourage you to not do so as my brother died of colon cancer and it is not the way anyone wants to go.

My doctor has been wanting me to get one. I’m 55. I decided to do the cologuard for now. My great-aunt had her colon perforated from a colonoscopy, so I’m a little hesitant.

Stress—cortisol—might have caused the blood sugar rise. That would be my guess, anyway.

I hate colonoscopies. Last time wasn’t so bad, though. They gave me a better (i.e., slightly less nasty) clean-out preparation, and then for the actual procedure they gave me propofol, so I have no memory of it. Much better than taking a tranquiliser and having to be present for the whole thing!

Got to admit that propofol isn’t bad

I second the suggestion of having a colonoscopy. My mother got colon cancer, she had just moved here to be nearer her daughters. Her new dr. said she should be checked out, she was 70 at the time. She had cancer, they did a surgery to remove part of the colon and because it was removed and they had caught it early, she lived another 15 yrs. Then my sister got colon cancer and I had recently told her to get checked because she hit 60, they caught her at an early stage as well, they removed part of the colon and she had a slight bit of follow up procedure, and she is fine now.

I get checked every 3 yrs. now, so far only tiny polyps (2), precancerous, get removed. One of our cousins also gets checked regularly and has a few removed, he is now 81.

I used to hate the prep, but now that I am keto and do a lot of up to 4 days of fasting, it really isn’t a problem at all.
