Collagen, anyone try it and have stomach issues?

(Denise) #21

thanks Robin, I’ll take a look at this one for sure!! I’m having no issues at all today so I’m thinking a bug in my stomach, but maybe got rid of it just using my ACV and the Ech/Goldenseal combo

(Robin) #22

I just started ACV too!

(Denise) #23

Thank you Amanda!! I can have a few to compare ingredients on now! Since I see it’s ok to post what we have mine is this one, for now. It’s pretty expensive but if I get results, it will be worth it. I know it take quite awhile to really know but that ok, as long as it doesn’t give me weird side-effects

Ancient Nutrition

I guess that means it’s been on the shelf a long time:laughing:

Denise, you are an inspiration. There is no where for me to go but up. Maybe when the spring comes, I will get my husband out to walk with me. We have a full gym in the basement which he has used daily for the last forty years. He keeps encouraging me to start small and work my way up. I am going to have to do something soon because although I believe I am metabolically fit, my muscles and balance could use some exercise.

(Denise) #25

I don’t know what your walking-area is like Marianne but I would just encourage to go it alone, if you feel safe, rather than depend on a partner to walk with. If I’d waited til I found someone to walk with me I wouldn’t have ever actually done it on my own. I invite people sometimes, to walk, or go to the gym with me to encourage them but no one yet.

If your hubby doesn’t go with you, who knows, you might encourage him to go with you

It is known to cause those issues for some people. I take it but can’t take it constantly or it triggers migraines, so I get a tub of 90 caps and take two a day for 45 days then take 45 days off and repeat.

(Denise) #27

oh no, I’m prone to those, but nothing so far. I’ll remember your method though Allie, just in case I get one. I don’t know what yours are like but mine put me down, and can hang on for at least 2 days, or, just a 2 or 3 migraines in a row. I would miss a day or two of work a month and no one ever seemed to think I should just take an aspirin. Migraine is not a typical headache is it :frowning:

Denise - I really don’t know much about collagen powder and started taking it because of being on this forum. But the ones I’ve taken have just been pure hydrolysed bovine collagen powder without any added ingredients. As someone who’s past middle age  I also think it’s good for my bone density.

Marianne - As for walking, I much prefer doing it on my own. Off out for a 3 hour walk soon (after I’ve had my creamy collagen coffee of course )

(Denise) #29

I’m just guessing here but have you looked into getting your stomach PH balanced Marianne? If my tummy is upset I usually go for the ACV, but am careful never to overdo it’s use. It can cause tooth sensitivity. I always drink with a straw, and rinse/brush my teeth after I use it.

Also, ACV comes in capsules. Again though, I am super careful about not ingesting it only once in awhile. With a constant or more often upset, I’d look at what foods seem to provoke the upset, and then PH balance. I’m betting you know this stuff but thought I’d mention it

I take the unflavored version here:

https://www.costco.com/vital-proteins-collagen-peptides.product.100736527.html

Hmm…they are on sale right now.

My wife uses a different kind for recipes, but those are sweetened, and are too sweet for me for daily use.

(Denise) #31

I can’t see me buying a Costco Card because I live alone, plus, we don’t have a Costco close enough to our town in order for me to save any money. I can check out the brand though as that’s twice it was recommended Bob, so thank you much. I don’t like it when they add sweetner to anything because they always add too much imo. Like a drink I tried from healthfood store because it’s made with stevia. It was way too much stevia

(Bob M) #32

They sell them elsewhere:

This lists only the “performance” products, but I’ve seen the collagen peptides in stores. The Costco variety is large in size and often on sale. But it’s definitely not worth a membership for collagen peptides. (When we go to Costco, we buy all kinds of stuff…fake Christmas tree; meats; cheeses; fresh salsa; coffee; vanilla; dog stuff; you name it.)

(Denise) #33

I can see doing it with another mouth to feed, but the times in the past I’ve been to Costco with someone with a card, I love what you can find there

(Bob M) #34

Yeah, even with a family of 4, sometimes the packaging is too big. I like capers to add to my meat lunches sometimes. The jar of capers at Costco is HUGE. Way too big.

Also, 90+% of products marked “keto” at Costco are not.

(Denise) #35

I bet 90% at any store that is labeled Keto friendly is full of, well, just full of carbs

(Marianne) #36

Thanks, Denise!

I should have put “caused my tooth sensitivity” and we don’t have one dentist that takes my insurance, or, they aren’t taking new patients. So I do clove oil at night brushing for now, plus non-flouride baking soda. I don’t want that to happen to anyone else :frowning:
