Coles low carb bread

Has anyone here tried this bread? If so what do you think? It’s pretty tasty and toasts well. The label said it’s 3.1g carbs per two slices and 196 calories…

Haven’t tried it, but I just read the label. A few thoughts (none of which you probably care to hear  ) …

Ketosis is one thing. Inflammation is another.

Much of the benefits of cutting out the carbs in general is it reduces the insulin spikes and avoids foods (carbs/sugars) that are inherently inflammatory … which in turn is what leads to most of the ailments throughout the body and brain that keto is intended to help address.

Reading the ingredients of this product, I see it’s composed primarily of inflammatory components: gluten, soy, rye, oats…

In other words, you’d be filling up on inflammatory ingredients running at cross purposes to whatever objectives are likely attracting you to be eating “keto” in the first place.

YMMV. Just my 2 slices. :vulcan_salute:

Thank you for that. I suppose eating this bread explains why it might irritate an existing skin condition.
All the supermarkets are getting on the low carb bandwagon with their low carb bread. Coles is the better as it’s less chewy than the others. Macro was recommended to my husband by the diabetes educator but he doesn’t like it so we tried all of them and he does like Coles brand.

Sorry, I know it’s disruptive to years of routine when it comes to changing one’s eating habits.

As one half of a husband/wife team, I can attest that abandoning a low fat/high carb menu for a low carb/high fat one takes a mix of compassion, commitment and time. When it comes to eating, two people are rarely on precisely the same wavelength. So it also takes patience.

We’ve been at this keto thing for 2-1/2 years now. There were plenty of moments where you’d hear “Gee, it’d be nice to have some xxxxx” (where xxxx is some carb-drenched comfort food). Yeah, perhaps?

But like an ex-smoker bumming a cigarette after several years of being smoke-free… no, actually it now tastes like the crap it always was. It’s remarkable how easy it is to have “fond memories” of things that actually sucked.

Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta… these are the foods we often associate with family eating memories - especially nostalgic holiday meals. And so it’s understandable that they’d be missed on some level. As a result, it’s tempting to look for replacements of some kind that are “keto” friendly.

Having all the delicious stuff packed into my favorite sandwiches - without the bread - has become a savory delight. I can eat even more of those healthy flavorful ingredients without stuffing myself with that insufferable bread. A knife and fork work wonders and my hands are still clean when I’m done. Eat to satiety.

I appreciate that such transitions are easier said than done. But long term satisfaction by changing one’s way of eating is there to be had.

Rather than prowling around looking for things to replace what you’re “missing,” it’d be much more satisfying in the long run to find low-carb foods you really enjoy. Keep them on hand. And EAT, EAT, EAT to your complete satisfaction.

If you approach things this way, keto won’t be about missing things - it’ll be about enjoying the total freedom to satisfy your hunger with a wide range of tasty, rich, healthy foods. If that’s a “diet,” then bring it on.

2+ years later, our health has vastly improved - our lab reports are superb - and we’re both feeling great. Eating to our hearts’ content, and rarely if ever wondering how those high-carb menu items from years ago might taste. The food we’re eating is so much more satisfying - before, during, and after the meal. And it’s where most of the flavors we always enjoyed had been lurking all along.

Best wishes to you and your husband in making this work for yourselves!

Just a slice now and then is what I do. Can’t give up simple pleasure of eating PBJ once or twice a week. I make my own jelly with wild blueberries, lemon juice and swerve.
