There are only 8 ounces of liquid in a full cup. Even if I add 1/4 cup of HWC to a cup of coffee, that is 4 tablespoons (2 oz), which at 0.4 carbs for each tablespoon, is ‘only’ 1.6 carbs.
Coffee
There is a way to order the Starbucks latte:
triple tall heavy cream latte.
The 3 shots are 4.5 oz total. The whole cup is 12 ounces, which means 8 oz of foamed heavy cream, which is approximately 6 oz of heavy cream.
Hi,
One thing you might want to try is cold brewing your coffee. We do it in our house to get rid of some of the bitterness in the coffee and it brings out a more complex flavor profile. I usually drink my coffee iced so it makes it extra quick in the morning. Just grab my bottle of cold brew…throw some over ice and add either HWC or half and half…depending on my carb count for the day…and a dash of flavoring. We have not 100% cut the sweeteners in our house yet since we are on day 8…but the cold brew does help with the bitterness.
Coffee was the last thing on the AIP “nono” list I gave up (switched to tea) and I used inositol and unsweetened vanilla coconut milk. Inositol is a supplement that has a SLIGHTLY sweet taste to it. Not enough to turn it into a coffee milkshake, but it does take off the edge of bitterness. A pinch of salt also does the trick. Start small with the salt unless you want your coffee to taste like blood.
Most of the information I gathered was on the internet, but most said that if you are getting a Grande (I did not mention this before) latte, they do add 12-14 oz of milk/cream. I then put this information into a few nutrition calculators, and the amounts were pretty high. At any rate, my wife stopped having her daily Starbucks latte, and it did make a difference in her weight loss,
Grande is 16 ounces total. The default for a grande is 2 shots of espresso, which is 3 ounces of espresso. Thus, 16 ounces - 3 = 13 ounces of foamed cream. Heavy cream does not foam well, so that equates to about 10 ounces of actual cream.
That is why I order a triple tall. That has 12 ounces total, 4.5 of which are coffee. Thus, that is 7.5 ounces of foam cream left, which is more like 5 or 6 ounces of heavy cream.
Edit: i have also been known to order a sextuple grande:
16 - 9 = 7 ounces of foamed cream…5 ounces of cream.
