Coffee during fast spike insulin or slow autophagy?

(Chelan Ortiz Lewis) #1

Good morning all,

I have recently started OMAD to kick thru a stall I am in. The first few days I had a cup of black coffee in the morning prior to my workout and also to help curb hunger; however, I am trying to do as clean of a fast as possible, and I read in an article yesterday that coffee in fact spikes your insulin and will slow down the process of autophagy. Is anyone well read on this subject? Any input? I’m still new to IF and the coffee really helps get me to thru the 24 hours until my next eating window opens up, but I don’t want to mess with the process if coffee is not a good idea.

Thanks for posting this. For some reason, my podcast platform, podcastaddict was not showing the latest one…

I listened to that podcast earlier this morning - I lost count how many times I heard “well, we really don’t know”.

New science I guess.

Not sure which article you found, the one I read was split into two studies, the first of which utilized 70g of coffee grounds in 1L of water and the second 52g in 0.9L of water (sounds pretty stout!) I got out my scale, and that’s over 3/4 cup dry grounds for the first and about 1/2 cup for the second. So, it may depend on the amount you drink. If you aren’t drinking these amounts it may or may not affect you, but if your going for autophagy there could be an effect. I agree with @Ajax on listening to the last Obesity Code podcast. Hope this helps.

What’s in your coffee?

Found it, thanks. It was just a few hours late getting up on the website, iTunes had it faster! Patience was needed…
