Hi, I’m new here. I had to share a little bit of success. I’m only 10 days into my keto diet and the pain and inflammation in my discs and hips is completely gone! I was in the emergency room on July 25, using a walker and unable to stand up straight. I’ve had constant and severe pain in my low back and hips since the beginning of July. No matter what I tried with diet and physical therapy, the pain was constant and kept me from walking. I was even using a wheelchair three weeks ago. BUT… For the past 4 nights I have slept through without waking up from stabbing pain in my hips, and this morning the pain is completely gone!!! I am shocked and sooooo grateful for these positive changes. I know without a doubt that it’s because I’ve been eating a ketogenic diet.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Chronic Pain is Gone!
Hi. Yes I have experienced the same thing. I’ve had chronic low back pain for over a decade. It would take a couple hours after waking up to be able to stand up completely straight. Two weeks after going keto, my pain is GONE! It’s been gone for long enough now that I don’t remember it. @McFly I’m so happy for you!! NSV for the win.
I have bursitis in my left hip that developed from having one flat foot (right foot) and obese for years. I had flat foot reconstruction in December which initially made my bursitis worse because I was favoring my right side. I started keto in May. My inflammation in my surgery foot is down and my hip bursitis is just about gone. The only time bursitis bothers me is if I drink alcohol (always bourbon) the previous night. Usually I’m okay with one drink, but multiple drinks or having a drink several days in a row will make the bursitis kick back in.
I’m a newbie too. Within 10 days my right hip quit hurting. It was hurting badly enough that it caused me to not sleep well and when I got up it hurt, the pain also affected my movement. I couldn’t believe it quit hurting so fast.
I’ve been Keto for 3 months. For years my Rheumatoid Arthritis has made walking barefoot painful. It felt like I was walking on gravel.
Just in the last 3 weeks or so, I have noticed it doesn’t hurt to walk barefoot anymore! I can pad around the house for an hour or so before I remember I am just in my sock feet. Amazing.
I had knee problems. Arthroscopic on right 16 months ago and was going to get left one done a year ago… Right knee feels good now and continues to improve. I would love to run again. Left knee doesn’t bother me at all anymore. ~21 months keto with occasional lapses.
My wife’s knees were so bad, she could barely go up the steps to our front door, and we were always looking for ramps wherever we were walking.
After being on the diet 11 months, we went on vacation and visited Battleship Texas, in Houston, and she was able to walk all over that ship – up and down the stairs, and everywhere!
This makes me hopeful that Keto with help with the pain in my feet caused by neuropathy!! So happy for you, that’s great, you must be so happy and relieved!! Living in constant pain is awful so this is amazing news!!
When that pain goes away, you’ll be able to correct that reasoning to “caused by sugar!!”
Actually my neuropathy was caused by chemotherapy drugs, but I would love to at less see some improvement!! So far nothing has helped!!
Chronic ankle and knee pain are gone. Another side effect to Keto…today I went to have my eyes checked. My glasses were not doing a great job. Well, it wasn’t because my vision was worse. It has actually improved 4 levels and is 50% better that it was. The doctor said it was because I have a very stable insulin level. Spikes cause pressure in your eye which can affect your vision. I’ll take it! Just another extra bonus to eating this way!
You’re welcome.
That’s a very overwhelming article, even if one is familiar with herbs.
I zoomed down to the info about astragalus, which I started taking a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had read something along the way about it being helpful for neuropathy caused by chemo.
Another herb that has been used in four of eight herbal recipes tested for CIPN is Astragalus membranaceus radix . This might be rational, while Astragalus membranaceus radix water extracts caused a marked enhancement of the NGF-mediated neurite outgrowth and the expression of growth-associated protein 43 from PC12 cells in vitro [162]. Astragalus membranaceus radix extracts can be a potential nerve growth-promoting factor, being salutary in aiding the growth of axons in the peripheral nerve [162]. Astragaloside IV (AGS-IV), one bioactive compound of Astragalus membranaceus radix , is an aldose-reductase inhibitor and a free-radical scavenger which suppressed a decrease in myelinated fibers, promoted an increase in myelinated fiber density and an increase in segmental demyelination in diabetic rats [163]. It also increased the activity of glutathione peroxidase in nerves, depressed the activation of aldose reductase in erythrocytes, decreased the accumulation of advanced glycation end products in both nerves and erythrocytes, and elevated Na+, K±ATPase activity in both the nerves and erythrocytes of diabetic rats, so it is considered to be protective against the progression of peripheral neuropathy [163].
Thank you all for your wonderful posts. My boyfriend has chronic pain and is worrisomely thin (he’s one of those skinny guys who should eat lots of food). He lives on junk food like potato chips and chocolate bars. For him a healthy meal is a bowl of Harvest Crunch. I used to cook lots of meat and fish for him, but I got tired of that for reasons I won’t go into.
Anyway, I wish he’d eat better.
How have things been going with your peripheral neuropathy? Has keto helped? My wife has CIPN and I’m wondering if this may help her!
