Chronic Inflammation in Obesity and the Metabolic Syndrome

(PJ) #1

A guy on Quora ref’d this article. He wrote:

I developed an interest in this subject after gaining weight a la metabolic syndrome, and having it literally melting off after resumption of prescription-strength NSAIDs forchronic back problems. It’s a long read, and probably dry to some, but quite informative.

I thought someone here might find it interesting.

I like this one:

”…There is probably more than one cause for activation of inflammation. …”

It’s called; I eat more than I need and do not pay attention to how highly concentrated the food I stuff in my mouth is?

I didn’t finish reading this because I got too excited about a thought I had. I think I understand one reason why omega-6 fats cause inflammation. Omega-3 fats promote fat accumulation through hyperplasty (fat cells multiplying) rather than hypertrophy (fat cells getting stuffed with too much fat)[insert Thomas DeLaur citation here  ]. Omega-6 fats cause hypertrophy over hyperplasty because the cell stays insulin sensitive even after the fat enters the mitochondria, meaning the cell accepts too much fat. Fat cells that are stuffed with too much fat cause cytokine release and other immune system responses, hence the link between obesity and inflammation! Mind…blown!

The more I read about food the more I think there is nothing to eat that is not gonna hurt me somewhat, except if I don’t eat it, that hurts me too. sigh.

This video that YouTube recommended to me last night about hypertrophy vs. hyperplasty was really good. YouTube, you know me better than I know myself
