Chromium and other supplements

#1

Chromium is mostly found in whole grains and breads Should chromium supplements be added since it is lacking in a keto diet?

Chromium is highest in seafoods/shellfish and also some in lean beef, so I doubt people who eat fish or a lot of beef would have reason to be concerned.

#3

As people live on meat alone without supplements, I surely doesn’t worry without some good reason in general but that’s my personal attitude.

I looked it up a bit now… I consume chromium rich food in negligible amounts, apparently, since ages, without noticeable problems but it seems chromium isn’t even essential…

While not essential, despite getting over 200% of the RDA for chromium, I also supplement infrequently as chromium is helpful with blood sugar control (I really should do high dose supplementation), and will continue until the bottle runs out - will not continue once current bottle is empty.

I take a daily supplement and have for years as it really helps with period pains. Found out by accident but it’s amazing.

#6

Yep, I can imagine it’s useful for some people. I never felt the need. But I will remember it may be good for period pain, I have a friend with bad period pains… I never had any and this is what every woman should have IMO but life is a jerk.

I don’t have any when I take chromium, but whenever I stop they get bad. Started taking it for the supposed appetite controlling effects which I’ve not noticed at all, but this is a much better thing I found instead.

#8

I believe it is an essential element

#9

Supposed to be essential for things like regulating insulin

(Allie) #10

It’s an essential TRACE mineral so the body only needs the tiniest amount which will easily be sourced from food.

I’ve tried chromium, but there was never a perceived benefit for me. Most things I try fall into that category, though. (Though some – like Vitamin D – I think actually might work, but there’s no way for me to tell.)

Okay, sorry, my first google result said it’s not essential but now I found it’s essential trace amount…
I researched a bit more, it seems I can get it from my pork too… And from my eggs too, more than enough, apparently though who knows what reality is, I just saw some data and I couldn’t tell how right they are and if the food I eat is similar to what the researched ones… But I seem to eat mostly food with a serious chromium content so I don’t see the point of supplementing in my own case. Not like I know much at this point but I won’t put more effort into it. There are too many micronutrients and it’s not like I can change my diet…
