Hi All.
I’ve been keto for 5 months (this time around) keto is great for me because any amount of carbs make me sleepy.

I got blood work done recently and my cholesterol is high. Now, I know there are good forms of fat but should I still be worried about my cholesterol? My heart has felt heavy and like it is working hard. I was chalking that up to my anxiety but I’m wondering if my heart is in danger. Could someone give me some insight?

My Cholesterol 225
HDL 52
LDL 158
Non-HDL 173

I don’t have a great doctor, he just told me to stop doing keto but keto works well for me.

Welcome to the forums!!

There is actually little evidence that high cholesterol causes heart disease. Your numbers are actually quite middling/average anyway, so no need to worry.

If you are worried about heart disease, then go get yourself a CAC scan: this measures the calcification of the arteries around the heart directly ie it is measuring the state of your arteries directly, not via the discredited cholesterol proxy measure. CAC scans are actually reasonably cheap, you just need to find somewhere near you that does them.

If your Dr tells you to stop doing keto he is not a Dr worth having. Go find another one.

Dr Malcolm Kendrick might put your mind at rest on this issue. His website is here:

He has a long running blog and several books which deal with cholesterol, data and the mechanism which leads to heart disease respectively.

Well said. We are chipping away at the cholesterol lies one person at a time! How long til the whole world gets this? Might be sometime in the 2040s… :joy::joy:

I think the medical authorities will be the last to get it.

Yes I know there are tons of misconceptions. Especially about fat making you fat and fats being bad for you. I guess I got spooked because I could feel my heart beating heavier but must be something else.

Thank you I’ll check out his books.

It is possible that you are a bit hypovolaemic (low blood volume), which is making your heart work harder. So try drinking a cup of bone broth each day, and see if that helps. The bone broth will give you both liquid and electrolytes. If you don’t see an improvement after a week or two, then you’ll want to get checked out by your doctor to see what’s really going on.

Mine was off the scale last time I had it checked, but ratios were perfect so I’ll keep doing what I’m doing  So many doctors use out of date and inaccurate info, it’s sad as people are being badly advised as a result. You’ve been given some good info already about where to look for more accurate info.
