Cholesterol Dr not excited. Not sure why

(Will Butler) #1

Little back ground heart attack 2 years ago at 37 so my doctor wasn’t happy about the higher cholesterol. Keto for 2-1/2 months down 47 pounds and several inches and feeling good. Can someone break down my results?

Cholesterol 299
Triglycerides 677
Hdl 32
Vldl 135
D-ldl 122

This week
Cholesterol 291
Triglycerides 211
Hdl 33
Vldl 42
D-ldl 197

Also A1c dropped from 6.5 to 5.9 so yay on that. Any help would be appreciated.

Your triglyceride drop is phenomenal. That is the reason I am doing keto. I will go in in a couple months to get retested. So your results are so encouraging. That’s what stands out to me. And congrats on the A1C. That’s major!

(Omar) #3

before tg/hdl 677/32 =21, I never seen such result

after 211/33 = 6.4 still high

but excellent progress if the 677 is accurate number

A1c dropped to 5.9

This is why we were nervous on starting this diet. Heart attack resulted in 3 stents. I have a terrible family history with heart problems. What’s best way to work on triglycerides? Or does my HDL need to come up

There is no, NONE, zip NADA, science on cholestrol or saturated fats being bad for coronary heart disease.
Theyve been looking for the last 50 years to indict convict and execute this demon of higfh cholestrol and saturated fats - with no success. If anything, there is more data supporting the fact that cholestrol is protective to all cause mortality…

just KCKO - let your body heal itself and tell the doctors :fu:

From what I understand, triglycerides will naturally become lower, and HDL will get higher, following Keto.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #8

Also - some, but not all, forum members wait until six months on Keto before re-testing, as some blood numbers will fluctuate before that time. I have high triglycerides, and am only on week six, so I am going to wait for the six months to re-test. But you are doing fantastic!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #9

What she said!

That drop in the triglyceride level is why the doctor is probably not saying anything. Even though the number moves around quite a bit from day to day, a drop of that size is significant. Well done! :bacon: :bacon: :bacon:

Check out Dave Feldman’s site, www.cholesterolcode.com. It has lots of information that you might find interesting. Also, look for his lectures on YouTube, particularly the one he gave at Low Carb Breckenridge earlier this year.

Thanks everyone! Very excited about this lifestyle change. I have gotten my in laws, and my brother on this woe and they are also showing great results.

(Mitali) #11

You just need to increase your HDL, other numbers looking great!

(Omar) #12

wish you the best and I feel your next readings will be better

(Diane) #13

I agree that as you continue to KCKO, your HDL level should improve. Here is an article with some additional ideas:

tg can be brought down following keto regime but my observation is thst hdl is genetic and very difficult to boost.

Recommend that you search the forum for CHD causes, and you should find lots of interesting reading and viewing. I had/have high cholesterol, but have never found any convincing evidence that high cholesterol leads to CHD.

Dr Malcolm Kendrick has a very interesting list of things that DO cause CHD, though. Look him up, he has lots of interesting things to say to us folks with high cholesterol.

BTW, I am not worried in the least about my high cholesterol. In fact, it is protective. My recommendation is do some research to see if you can find what has caused CHD in your case.

Good luck, and welcome to the keto way. You will love it!
Cheers
Alec

Wow. The drop in trigs is great! The best way to keep those trigs coming down and increase the HDL is just keep avoiding the sugar, grains, processed foods, and inflammatory oils.

Ivor Cummins gave a presentation regarding the cause of chronic disease at KetoFest last year. He’s a great presenter! You may find it interesting and helpful.

Diane thanks for the video! I always enjoy a little more knowledge. My wife and I watched the magic pill last night as well. Feeling a new motivation. I will search the other doctor and get some more knowledge soon.

I’m a remnant cholesterol fan boy. I ran your numbers on http://cholesterolcode.com/report/ and below is what came up. At first, I thought, “Hmmm. Not great. You’re in the High Risk Quintile.” But then I realized, 1.84 mmol/L is MUCH BETTER than 3.75 mmol/L remnant cholesterol!!! Less than 0.7 puts you in the Medium Risk Quintile and you’re halfway there! Tell your doctor to read this http://triglyceridespanel.ajconline.org/Content/PDFs/7-Varbo-Remnant.pdf and watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LuKwsz9Woc

Why doesn’t your Doctor thrilled? They can’t give you a pill remnant cholesterol but they can give you one to lower your LDL. They are going by what the current “standard of care” (to ensure they don’t get sued). I seriously wonder if Doctors get a kickback for prescribing medication.

GREAT WORK!!! Please keep going!

Thanks that was my family doctor not my cardiologist. I see him in July. Hopefully thrilled with results or I may have to find some Keto friendly doctors. All I know is I am not ever tired and can sleep when I get horizontal. Down from busting out of 38 jeans to flirting with 34’s. All the cows on earth would have to die before I change this woe. My apple play hooks up to 2ketodudes each time I get in the car so on about round 3 of listening to all episodes. All the support we get on these forums is outstanding!
