Chia Seeds - Tummy Hurts

#1

So, I made some chia pudding the other night and ate some before bed. My tummy starting hurting last night after dinner. It was hard to sleep. I have to go to work, we are already short staffed. I am thinking I did not put enough liquid in them. And now have a gut bomb. Planning on drinking a lot of water and hope this soon passes.

What was your seed to liquid ratio? I use 3 tbsp in 3/4 cup liquid, no pain, but it does encourage “movement”.

This is one of the warnings on things like this and even metamucil - you gotsta add LOTS of water and drink lots of water after it.

Don’t wait until you’re doubled over and incapacitated before you go to the ER if you genuinely feel something’s wrong. Constipation is not comfortable, but don’t wait until it’s something worse.

Constipation can be one of the symptoms of low sodium, so if you’re constipated, try increasing your daily salt intake. It works for me!

Ahhhhh chia seeds, my old friend. I cannot eat chia puddings (no matter how well made) without severe intestinal distress. You may be similarly afflicted? I hope the worst has passed as you posted this a day ago now!

Loosely related word of warning- if you ever try the diet doctor bread rolls do not exceed more than 1 in a 24 hr period lest you wind up in the same pickle.

Better yet, eat a pickle instead!

I literally just saw a post about pickles and made myself one. Munching now :joy:

So the pain has subsided, and has moved. Still no relief… I took a Metformn that should get things moving. Lol. I am definitely going to add more liquids to my chia seeds and try again. I really do like them. Thanks.

@Alyeee Or better yet don’t eat them. The old joke about the arm hurts when I do this, and the doctor replies, then don’t do that. Constipation is likely the result of low salt and inadequate hydration as @PaulL suggested. I used to use Sodium Docusate and Senna but don’t need them with the keto lifestyle. Salt and water seem to do the trick.
