So i bin in ketosis for 13 weeks and lost 70 lbs so far I told myself in the beginning that I would cheat on thanksgiving and the idea of it gives me so much anxiety I want to have thanksgiving with all the trimming but I don’t want to fall off the wagon and not get back up and I’m worried that I’m going to get myself sick I inspired so much people to start this Journey and I never want to quit
Cheat day thanksgiving
Hot damn, looking good!
My advice: If you don’t feel like you can have one day of eating whatever you want and then going back to keto, don’t do it. Period. I won’t be eating non-keto. I just know that for myself, old habits die hard, and if I do it for Thanksgiving, then I will do it again the next day because leftovers and whatever I already took myself out of ketosis. From then on, it’ll be all downhill. If you think that you have the willpower to be able to do it, then by all means, go ahead. This is a lifestyle, not a fad diet. If you want to eat a delicious meal with your family for the holidays, go for it. Just… proceed with caution.
And again.
Hot damn. Good work.
Dude! You look amazing! I am certain you feel a lot better too? Do what’s right for you on Thanksgiving. I am cooking Thanksgiving and I’m going to cook everything I normally cook for that holiday meal. I will have two types of potatoes; one original and one cauliflower. If I decide to have a tablespoon of stuffing with some gravy on it so be it. Or pumpkin pie with turkey on it…? I think I will live and I think I will not throw myself into a panic about it.
Like I said do what you feel is right and best for you. You’re going to be the hottest dude at the dinner table anyway so who cares!
Anybody see Carolyn’s Facebook page, “All Day I Dream About Food”? She just had a recipe for dressing on there today. And it looked really good!
Cauliflower (potatoes), keto dressing, turkey, green beans, mushrooms, Carolyn’s pumpkin roll, I can think of a LOT of things that would work for a totally awesome Thanksgiving dinner that wouldn’t really be missing out on a whole lot and still allow us to keto on.
Gotta be proactive! One way to make sure you have something good to eat when going to someone else’s house is to take something good that you can eat. Did that with some eggplant parm a couple of weeks ago and they raved about it… plus, I got all the guilt free eggplant parm I wanted.
Good luck! And Happy Thanksgiving!
Dude, you look amazing!
One of the tools you can use to get back on track and into the swing of things again, is fasting. This may be mostly a psychological reset, because many (but not everybody) can tolerate one day off plan and still remain in ketosis. Regardless, your body is fat adapted, so after a day or two of fasting it will be restored.
Start cooking! You can make keto versions of just about everything you would normally eat on Thanksgiving. Invite some friends and you’re good. Or if you have a tradition of going to someone’s home, bring alternatives for the things you know you’d especially miss–maybe pumpkin pie, stuffing/dressing, etc.
I always make my own cranberry sauce with xylitol as the sweetener and a low carb dessert I’d rather have than pie anyway (not a pie fan, especially not pumpkin pie). We make a lot of non-carby veggie sides. And I do allow myself a bit of cornbread stuffing as my “indulgence” for the day.
I make sure to eat good keto foods before the meal (breakfast and lunch) so I’m not scarfing down a lot of food because I’m hungry.
I’m down south visiting my dad and there’s a very tradition-heavy culture on t-day here so I just went with it and I’ll get back into ketoing on tomorrow.
I’m not worried but I did just take my blood sugar and yikes! It’s great to see just how beautifully my whole body responds to the ketogenic way of life…and to be reminded of why it’s so important on a day like today.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
