Chasing the keto high!

ketonix

I love keto and I have been blowing some impressive numbers consistently on my ketonix. I have recently tightened up my carbs so they really are at minimal levels now. I get keto buzz envy though! I am still waiting for that real brain buzz/high that people like @Brenda talk about. Is it just a question of more time? I know some people can really take many months to get fully adapted. maybe I am one of them and that is OK, however frustrating! I am wondering also whether a drop in ketonix readings would indicate that I am using more that blowing out? @richard thoughts?

I have seen no variance in the Ketonix readings dropping based on heavy consumption via exercise. Normally, mine will actually rise some if I exercise, probably due to some dehydration.

A blood reading will drop for sure.

For me, if I consume nuts, it will drop my Ketonix readings on a consistent basis. I don’t attribute this to over consumption of protein, but probably some form of inflammatory response. But, I don’t have a strict diagnosis for that either.

This morning, I blew 2 Red on my Ketonix and my blood reading was .4. That is after fasting 35 hours.

Ah OK. So consistently blowing a yellow/red is a good thing. I know it can’t be compared directly to blood but wondered if it would work that way - as in less expulsion, more used. Seems not. I’ll just have to wait for the buzz!

I’ve never used a Ketonix.

I did make one once from an old ethanol breath sensor and an arduino … sorry off topic.

The Buzz/high I get when I’m over about 2.0 mmol/l

Keto Euphoria? When I first got into ketosis, for a day or so I felt the nicest high. It was the most pleasant euphoria. Unfortunately, it went away… Although, I always seem to have a slightly greater sense of well being and do seem to appreciate music a little bit more than usual in ketosis I never again felt the intensity that I had felt at first.
Today however that changed. Yesterday, I fasted until this morning and this afternoon I felt the euphoria again. I am guessing that for the past few weeks maybe I had slipped out of ketosis and the fast put me fully back in thus starting up the sense of euphoria.once again…
What do you think?

There’s a lot of individual variation in ketone production and transport to the brain. Here’s an example of 10 people who were put on a standard keto shake for 4 days (they were not keto before). There’s a similar finding for BoHB - the brain uses both AcAc and BoHB.

My theory is, the degree to which you feel euphoric or just “better than before” depends on how impaired your brain glucose and insulin transport and metabolism was before keto, and what blood levels you can achieve. I typically don’t feel anything besides normal when my BoHB is below 4mmol. (I don’t have a Ketonix)
