Celiac and Keto

I am trying to help my dad with started Keto to avoid diabetes medication. He is 75 and has bee low carb for five days. He is a bit concerned with increased bm’s And diarrhea. Should this problem calm down? It must be a shock to his system after eating a lot of gf junk carbs and snacking.

I think this happens to a lot of people who start eating this way and it passes. A friend of mine just started the study up in Massachusetts (I’d posted a link to it on FB this past summer and she got in.) Anyway, it’s basically keto diet where they deliver all your food daily and have you weigh in! She said the first few weeks were like that and it settled down.

I am confused by the title though, is your dad a celiac? I wouldn’t think Keto would affect that because there is no gluten in the diet.

I am Celiac, Keto is a huge help.

Your dad’s digestive tract needs to get used to the new fuel source: fat. It takes time. He can try upping his protein and lowering his fat a bit and see if that helps. If it does, he can slowly increase fat over time. Make sure he is getting enough salt.

Maybe tmi, but I had the runs for several months before things settled down.
