CBD oil and ketosis?

(Kitty) #1

Anyone know if CBD oil affects ketosis?

(Michael ) #2

Cannabinoid? I don’t think so. Marijuana has never knocked me out, now the things it makes me eat, different story

Even alcohol has this effect on me. A few shots of vodka and I’m eating for 5.

(Michael ) #4

Yep, two totally different but devastating effects on diet. If I wanted to smoke weed, i would just prepare two fathead pizzas first so i didn’t do anything foolish

I would assume not- if ingesting I would check to see what the base oil is for your knowledge. They are usually cheap quality & not as Keto friendly as the MCT’s; usually safflower oil.

I use medical marijuana at least twice a day and I’ve been in ketosis for 6 weeks.

Hope this helps!

(I agree with @Fat_Mike- if you’re going to smoke, prepare Keto snacks BEFORE you smoke…)

I want to live where you live. No medical marijuana here. I have to drive 5 hours to ft. Collins to get the good stuff. At least if i want to stay on the up and up with Johnny law

(Jen ) #7

Five hours!? Good gravy. I live in Massachusetts- the medical MJ is one of the few perks of this state, lol.

So, while we’re on the topic…are there any studies on smoking and appetite ?

(Michael ) #9

Yeah, they have a pretty good understanding on cannabinoid receptors and hunger. A lot of information out there. As far as anecdotal, i can eat a pizza to complete satiety, smoke some cannabis, and magically eat another pizza. This could be a game changer for cancer patients, not to mention epileptics. I think it’s unethical to keep it illegal, especially for medicine. Pretty amazing if you look at little kids who were getting 100s of seizures a day and practically eliminated with cannabinoid treatments

So what is the pathway…in a nutshell ?

(Michael ) #11

(Michael ) #12

Not quite in a nutshell but pretty easy reading

Thanks !

I’m a hospice nurse and medical marijuana has actually been proven to increase appetite, decrease nausea/vomiting associated with chemo meds, and allegedly (an oncologist told me this but I have yet to find a scholarly article on this topic) that it can stop or reverse tumor progression. That seems like a long shot to me- there is a gentleman named Rick Simpson who lives in Canada who says marijuana oil reversed his cancer and is cancer free. People also make lots of $$ off of his name and marketing ā€œRick Simpson Oilā€ which is crazy expensive and not worth the money, in my opinion.

I’m not a regular smoker/user but the worst munchies I’ve ever EVER had was after having a couple of mull cookies - I get it - oh my god!

(Natalie Harris) #16

CBD oil is incredibly different to smoking cannabis ! CBD is completely different to THC and does NOT necessarily give you ā€˜munchies’. CBD in general works with homeostasis, so if you need to eat more, then you’ll probably want to, and vice versa.
I personally notice with CBD that I am less hungry and eating more instinctively, have lost weight and stayed well in ketosis.

CBD Oil ≠ Cannabis

Very much this! A lot of misinformation out there with regard to CBD. To my knowledge, you do not get the benefits of CBD by smoking (or eating) Marijuana. chances are, if it gets you high- much of the cbd has been bred out of the strain unless you are looking at the mild medicinal full spectrum such as charlottes web.

The antagonistic affect on the leptin receptor via THC is what causes the munchies. Unless you are ingesting full spectrum CBD with a high ratio of thc- you wont get the munchies on CBD alone. Source: https://www.uttbio.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/RD_Publications_The-Munchies.pdf

Also a good thread on the benefits of CBD and Keto synergy: https://www.reddit.com/r/CBD/comments/6vvbvi/anyone_here_on_a_ketogenic_diet_that_uses_cbd/

While full spectrum CBD with trace THC is reported to be the most effective, I currently use Hemp based CBD isolate with no trace THC and have been keto for 5 months and the benefits are life changing.

CBD Oil ≠ Cannabis indeed!

As long as there’s no sugars in it then no you’re fine.
