Carnivore questions and help

(Chris Kornelsen) #1

So I decided after Thanksgiving I’m going to go full carnivore. I’m gonna first do a no veggie carb up weekend and see how I feel. Mostly because I love pumpkin pie and thanksgiving stuffing and dinner and I wanna enioy it. But whenever I’ve tried carnivore in the past ove noticed when i check I’m barely in ketosis. So a couple questions

  1. Does protein effect sugars? I know this debate about it is on going but it seems when i eat alot of protein my ketones are less. I also know if my wife goes keto (type 1) she needs to take insulin for her protein.
  2. How much protein on carnivore? It seems impossible to get lower proteins on carnivore (by lower I mean 100g or less). There is wide debates about protein but 100g is in the middle of the two extremes.
  3. Rven though I’ve been keto 4 months now is there more adaptation on carnivore? I seem to feel pretty good when I have tried it but I get extremely fatigued day 2 or 3.

Protein definitely affects my ketones. I get beef fat from the butcher and keep my protein around 70 grams.

Yes to #3. Not sure enough to answer 1 & 2.

Yani just bought 4lbs of suet. What’s your ratios? Like if I cook up burgers from my ground beef should I add 20g or 30g of suet to it?

I have been carnivore for over two years, and you should not eat more protein than what’s recommended for your size. For me, it’s 80-100 grams. If you focus on fatty meat (and eat the fat), you should do fine with a normal amount of protein.

This video from Dr, Benjamin Bikman regarding protein is worth watching.

Personally, I like to just eat the suet by itself as a side dish sort of.

I don’t really measure things out before I prepare them. But my fat:protein ratio generally turns out to be pretty close to 2:1 in grams.

Here is what I ate yesterday for example:

How do you cook kt? I tried making suet rind things by salting and broiling them but it turned out mostly melted haha

This is probably going to sound pretty odd but I keep it in the freezer, cut off small chunks, put on a little good salt and then eat it raw.

If you cook it down you can render it into tallow for cooking which is also awesome.
