Workout

Wow, Karen - congratulations and kudos. :slightly_smiling_face:

I got up, had a big cup of coffee, have been online for some hours, and am thinking about going outside to clean and refill the hummingbird feeders… And that’s about it. :smirk:

Last evening my husband grilled two ribeyes and gave me one, whereupon I looked longingly at the one he gave himself. Then I had to admit I always want the one he didn’t give me! Haha! He, the sweetest guy on earth, for real, offered to switch with me, but then I got super indecisive and he concluded my problem is actually I probably want both steaks lolol :joy: and that may be accurate :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: but I know I cannot eat more than one so I’ll just have to live with the weekly tension :woman_shrugging:

(KM) #65

The grass (-fed beef) is always greener?

(Liz ) #66

Apparently! Hahaha!

(Karen) #67

And you will reep the benefits watching those humming birds… must be wonderful. I have just started putting food out for the birds again since the garden was over run with rats that were nesting under my neighbours shed. They have been gone from mine and next doors garden for about a year now so i am keeping an eye out lest they return! Nice to see some birds coming back though i did have some nesting coal tits this spring

Pottered about today. Food … i had cooked chicken sautèd in butter for brunch and pork for dinner and i managed to eat the lot… thats what comes from just eating chicken…never really fills me up. Just followed it with a bit of cheese and now eaten a small tub of pickled herring… i do like herring😀

Well I’m kind of excited! It’s possible my hunger signals can finally be trusted again! I had been doing OMAD and the reason was that I liked to eat a lot all at once lol. Disordered eating for sure, binging behavior. But this was a way to manage what felt unmanageable and not cause harm. Because any time I started eating, I felt like I couldn’t stop. Either I ran out of things to eat or I ran out of time, but I never felt finished. Not since I very first went keto in 2017 had I felt DONE. Even on high fat carnivore, even if I ate as much food as I wanted. Anyway, I was carnivore for 3 years, then at the beginning of this year six months just keto, now carnivore again since June 8.

Recently I’ve been so hungry at lunch I’ve been eating two meals a day. But, interestingly, at lunch I don’t have that binge behavior. And then I’m not as hungry at dinner so I haven’t been overeating. I’m not convinced I’m eating more than I was, or even less. I don’t think I am. I was pretty nervous because I’m trying to drop weight for my vacation (and for after) back closer to 160lbs is where I’m most comfortable but it’s been a struggle.

I know I’m supposed to ignore the scale and that’s certainly not my only metric, but when your cute outfits don’t fit, and the scale agrees why, I mean, there it is. In recent years I’ve gone as high as 175 since hitting my low point of 158 some years back (I’m like, 5’ 7 1/2”). This month I’d gotten down to 166, but adding lunch last week seemed to push the numbers back up.

I was resigned to packing my stretchy pants for this trip lol when today the scale inched down a tiny bit and I wasn’t hungry at lunch!! Hooray! This feels like old times!! I’m so excited if my fat burners got turned back on, if I can have two meals a day if I want, which I prefer to omad. Maybe my satiety signals are working? And maybe that carnivore magic has kicked back in?? I could use some magic right now, I’m telling ya.

At the end of our camping trip, we ended up with a family emergency. Two things.

First- I am really glad I picked up this cooler at Aldi. I was able to keep my allergy and carnivore food handy without begging space in a fridge.

Second. I have had trouble as a passenger in a car since I was in a bad accident when I was 18.

I would be in a full scale panic attack as a passenger in city traffic. Since our adult kiddos all live on the outskirts of the largest city in our state, it has been a huge problem. We were all over and through the city this weekend in the pouring rain. I was fine. No panic. It was a bizarre, but welcome change. I’ve been carnivore since September, so I think the higher fat therapeutic macros might be the key. It’s a win, for sure. ETA- that’s also with fewer meds.

No panic… fantastic! … however it occurred x

Two pretty boring days. Just about to go out yesterday and it started raining  i think this may be wettest July on record! I got out today though once the rain had stopped this morning. Had to take Raymond to his surgery to get his chest checked out as he has a hacking cough but he has to ride it as it isn’t bacterial so no anti biotics.

Yesterday i finished off the chicken and had a steak ribeye for dinner. Ate some cheese, some pickled mussels and some black pudding. Today i had a cheese omelette for brunch before out walking to Long Eaton … my closest town … for dinner i had another ribeye which was very tasty and 2 salmon fillets followed by some cheese. Salmon was very nice too.

!
Had to sit just inside the back door to do my daily read due to inclement weather… it is taking so long for the flowers to bloom this year.

(Liz ) #73

Oh that’s fantastic!! My reactions are still amped up, I hope I can calm down too.

Vacation going well so far. Going to try a Mexican restaurant where they also offer a loaded burger

(Megan) #74

That’s a great place to be. Here’s hoping you are achieving it!

I have a lifelong pattern of overeating and binge eating and seem to have kicked it in the butt since re-starting carni In Feb this year (I stopped for 5 months). I think the reason my appetite is quite a lot less is I started off eating less protein which put me in ketosis - which kicked in what many people doing keto experience: reduced appetite/less hunger/faster satiety.

Tho who really knows why we all experience what we do, there’s no cookie cutter explanation. As long as what we’re doing is working or will work when given time. Glad you’re seeing some positive change. Keep us posted!

Been outta pocket for a few days due to a death in the family so perpetrations have been hectic. But since we have family coming in from out of town I figured I’d get some ribs smoked.

(Bean) #76

Gorgeous picture. Since I went carnivore, I love being in the sun. Before that I was like a vampire, even though I am an outdoor girl.

Time may be a factor for me, but I think that it is more likely the higher fat carnivore. I had done carnivore and keto. I tried to add more fat with olive and other oils. It really messed with my head.

I dropped all the plant food and upped my animal fat and everything turned around in a few days. I’m also currently no egg and low dairy. We’ve had emergency care of two of our grandkids, so dairy has been convenient. The anxiety is well in hand.

Enjoy your trip. It looks wonderful!

(Liz ) #77

Oh my goodness! That’s remarkable!! Thanks for the kind wishes.

I’m so glad you got relief!! It’s such a frustrating condition. Thanks for the kind words.

The burger had Mexican spices and was delicious!

Condolences on your loss

(Geoffrey) #78

Thank you.

(Bean) #79

Condolences and kind thoughts your way.

I think that is the perfect reflex to a tough situation. Hope you are going OK with the loss of a family member.

Oxalate Dump! With atrial fibrillation (AF) on the side.

I felt something was up. Staying OK on plan. Had dinner with my mother and father in-law and I eat the food presented. It is mainly meat. Had a glass of red wine and listened to stories of growing up in Sicily in WW2.

Went for a skin cancer check. I’m an Australian surfer. It’s how we pay for our lifestyle. I have had a lesion in my lip for about a year that is cancerous. But it isn’t changing. The surgeon is fine for cutting it out or not. I had another skin cancer cut out of my lip. I opted to have it done awake. There was a lot of blood. But the experience was what I hoped for. There is a local anaesthetic, and you’re not allowed to talk. It healed up fine and they didn’t leave any bits.

Tonight I’ll eat steak and eggs cooked on the woodfire. This morning was bacon and eggs with salt and a cup of coffee.

But let’s talk about last night. I had a nice rib-eye and had driven down 3 hours from work in the city to get to the homestead as a rainstorm hit. Work continues to be stressful. Not work actually, managers continue to be stressful and they are taking advantage of new staff. I don’t like it. I felt tired and agitated. Something was up. Family in the city had come down with colds. Other travelling family just back from England brought some COVID with them. I reckoned a lurgy was testing my defences.

At about midnight I had an atrial fibrillation attack, fast heart rate and chest pains. It has been awhile. So I sat with it. But it was trying to knock me over. I started the salty bone broth and extra electrolytes. Sipping, waiting and breathing. Magnesium citrate until gut tolerance is reached (it wasn’t). But there was extra. All my joints hurt, my hands had swollen, it felt like glass was trying to exit through my skin all over. I took some aspirin, because the main risk of a heart rate at 200bpm is having a stroke, and a headache was developing. I sat with it. Outside the wind was strong and the house was lashed with rain. It would be a tough drive to the hospital in the town a half hour away. Then it stopped and flipped back to 60bpm. It was about a 2-hour cage fight.

This morning I hurt all over. I need about 24-hours recovery after an episode. But all is calm on the heart front. I don’t think any researchers have discovered yet what causes an oxalate dump. I’ll have to look it up again.

Here’s a winter post card from me.
