Carl's small dense LDL

(John) #1

Was listening to the dudes last night out of order and I was at the eating pattern episode.

I know Carl said he has moved LDL in the right direction but he still had elevated small dense LDL.

Not that I’m a stalker but I’m curious as to how this has resolved. I believe that episode was over a year ago - June 2016. I’d hope his small sense LDL is now within limits? I haven’t heard or seen any update.

oooo i like that followup question! Also is small dense LDL the LDLa or LDLb or something entirely different? I gotta relisten to that epi lol

Just how bad for you is the small, dense LDL? Are there studies, or is this still the old, false fear of cholesterol at work?

That’s real science. No debate there. You want large, fluffy particles. Small dense are bad, and undeniably so.

No this is the new studies that tells you to check for the small dense over just looking at the overall LDL levels. You can have low over all cholesterol and low LDL. But if it is these small particle LDLs will give you the problems. Hi insulin and cortisol levels can do this. Individuals who work shift work and are in high stress jobs such as law enforcement can have cholesterol levels that appear to be healthy but in fact they are at high risk.

Maybe we should just ask @carl

Last test was 816

This is great, I love the visual! Thanks @carl

from a quick google, I think < 700 is the level we are aiming for for small dense?

Carl,

How does one proceed on Keto with small dense particles? What adjustments did you have to make? I have this problem with small dense particles also and I don’t seem to be able to find adequate info on what and how much to eat of certain foods. I’ve been eating Keto for 11 months and reached my goal weight. I love this woe and don’t want to change. I wish there were some resources that would spell things out more definitively for those of who want to continue eating Keto but have this issue.

What would cause small LDL-P to increase? Mine has gone up significantly recently. I got a test in June of 2017 that showed less than 90. In February 2018 (after doing lots of keto fasting/feasting), it went up to 417.
Thoughts?

Dave Feldman has some thoughts on this: see www.cholesterolcode.com

I got lost reading on his site. I was hoping someone knew the TL;DR on increased small LDL-P.
