Care and Feeding of Cast Iron Pans

(Guardian of the bacon) #21

I always use hot tap water, haven’t had an issue yet.

Sometimes the food is just too tempting, who can wait?

#23

true but I can usually manage to delay starting my food by 10 seconds!

Haha! I never wash my cast iron pans or put them in water or even running water.
I scrape out the grease and wipe them clean. That’s it!
NOT DEAD YET

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #25

One of my pans is over 100 years old. A #8 Lodge. I also own Wagner and Griswold.
Put soap on my cast iron and you definately have a death wish.

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #26

You’re going to kill it.
Stop.

#27

Lol. It’s only a bit of water. It’s not dead yet!

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #28

NO water on a hot cast iron pan! Sheeeeeesh
YOU AREN’T WORTHY TO OWN CAST IRON

(Guardian of the bacon) #29

Settle down Hot Shot…

I’ve used hot water in my hot cast iron for years…my Cast Iron ain’t dead yet. :scream:

YET

(Guardian of the bacon) #31

It should outlive me…that may not take all that long

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #32

They don’t need water. And if you’re putting soap in them I’m turning you in to the cast iron police. You will be flogged.

(Guardian of the bacon) #33

No soap…I usually only need to use a little water when I burn cheese

BLASPHEMOUS

(Guardian of the bacon) #35

I like it crispy

(Guardian of the bacon) #36

I was impressed when I was finally able to make over easy eggs w/o breaking in my cast iron. Took me awhile to get there.

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #37

I use ceramic for eggs

(Guardian of the bacon) #38

Cast is all I got.

(@CubanBarbie) #39

I got one too and I agree! Although I need to figure out the heat situation. I like to wash my pan while it’s still warm because it will release food better…sometimes the water warms up a bit too much and the metal gets too hot to touch. Lol! Still great though!

I can identify. My husband stored the pan once with a lid on it that had just enough moisture after washing… holy rust! He’s not allowed to touch it anymore. :joy:
