I guess they are starchivores…lol

On a serious note the Egyptians had vitamin deficiencies (most likely Vitamin K) and the in-breeding didn’t help, you cannot attribute grain or agriculture to dental cavities, too many other variables to contend with; such as availability of micronutrients etc.

Footnotes:

[1] Trendy keto diet will NOT protect your teeth: Dentists urge followers of low-carb regimes to keep brushing twice a day - even if they are eating less sugar …More

I doubt meat ONLY eaters had tooth brushes and that slimy film would eventually lead to tooth decay and dental disease?

And meat ONLY eaters probably did not live long enough to get tooth decay from that IGF-1 trip hammer which will get you every time?

Start at the beginning, not the end.

Go to the labels sidebar. They are in alphabetical order. Find “Protons (01).” Read the protons posts in numerical order. That means starting at 1 and ending at 57 (as of the time of this post.) Yes this is a lot of parts. The earlier ones are the more important ones. The later ones are just studies that seem to confirm the protons hypothesis (which should really be called a theory at this point.) The labels sidebar doesn’t show up on mobile. Make sure to view the desktop version of the site.

Bunny, you are one of the last people I would expect to have trouble following along. I think if you just start at the beginning you’ll be fine. You’re actually reading all those studies you quote, right? Right?

(Bunny) #43

I see, start from the beginning, gotcha!

I understand what he’s saying but it is even beyond most people’s abilities, even highly educated people to grasp his configurations from pulled research.

I believe equally both is terms of causing dysregulation because I’ve experimented with both scenarios years ago but I agree that seed oils are much worse because they cause immediate weight gain, inflammation, depression, etc… They are more devastating and their effects take longer to reverse.

We know that high amounts of refined carbs glycate with protein to produce advanced glycation end products and high amounts of processed fat contains inflammatory lipid peroxides which promote the inflammatory cascade. Some whole foods on the other hand are low in carbs and rich carotenoids & polyphenols which prevent disease from starting in the first place.

I’m currently reading “The Carnivore Code” by Paul Saladino. He has this interesting citation in his chapter on Plant Foods are Super Foods.

This research paper states that memory and intelligence improved for vegetarians who were given creatine supplements.

Maybe it was meat that improved our intelligence after all.

As with everything, I think it’s complex. I’m a big fan of the PUFA hypotheses, but I don’t think we can count out high carb. I drank (good) beer, ate pizza, and ice cream (in that order), which are all low in PUFAs. I challenge anyone to drink a 6-12 pack of good beer a day, then eat pizza, then finish with Ben & Jerry’s, and not get fat.

(Bob M) #47

The take away: you’ll get fatter by eating O3 (fish oil). That fits with Petro D’s protons theory, which is that PUFAs make fat cells insulin sensitive (i.e., “hungry”).

Another issue is that you CAN eat very low fat and high carb and be fine, even under Petro D’s theories. It’s somewhere in the middle fat range where you aren’t.

Personally, I eat canned fish every once in a while…and don’t notice any increased hunger. But that’s also incredibly difficult to test. And it may be that the amount of O3 I’m getting is actually relatively small.

As for Dr. Saladino, he’s a bit too far to the Dark Side for me. Listened to some of his podcasts, where he said you HAD to eat only 100% grass fed beef – never conventionally fed. And he only eats raw yolks but not the whites (believing whites are bad for you). And raw liver. And believes if your fasting insulin is >4, you’re insulin resistant.

I’m not a huge fan of black and white guidelines like these.

And supposedly Ted Naiman (he of shirtless fame) eats about that level daily. But then he was never fat (weighs the same now as he did when he was vegetarian). It might not be the best for those of us who have gained 90+ pounds.

Thank you!

WARNING: The first post will be over your head. At least it was over mine.

#51

Not that particular talk, but I think he’s bringing it up a lot so I’m sure it’s coming up in interviews.

#52

After listening to him for a while and reading Carnivore Code (I’m in the middle of it), I find that he makes a strong case for the optimal human diet as he sees it, but doesn’t expect everyone to eat the way he does. In the book he has several levels of carnivore, and he’s quite clear that he’s strict because he wants to experiment on himself and take it as far as he can. I’ve heard him give guidelines for conventionally raised beef - eat lean, and then find cheap and high quality sources of fat - and definitely doesn’t expect everyone to eat raw liver (which… yeah :no_mouth:)

I love that he links health and regenerative agriculture/sustainability. I know that it can make for more expensive dinners in the short term (especially if you expect to eat grass-fed ribeye 2x/day, which he doesn’t recommend) and he has some suggestions for eating cheaper grass-fed cuts.

There are lots of those around! Naiman, Saladino, Shawn Baker, Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf, Abel James. Lots of the LC/ZC guys seem to like taking off their shirts for the cameras

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #54

Don’t forget my fave, Thomas Delauer. He’s actually more fun to watch with the sound off. Never bothered to find out if he’s carnivore or not.

Also, Mike Mutzel doesn’t usually take off his shirt, but when he does, whew!

(Edith) #55

I have mild histamine issues and I’m finding that grass fed beef causes my histamine reactions to flare up. I’m think that the grass fed beef gets hung longer before it is processed than grain finished since it is not as tender.

I actually eat raw liver because I find it “tastier” than cooked liver. I never thought I would ever say those words, but I eat about an ounce frozen and it’s not that bad. Cooked makes me want to gag.

To do Saladino’s complete nose-to-tail program is too much work for me.

(Edith) #56

Agreed!

#57

Ha! Yes - I love the photo of him on his podcast thumbnail. Somehow it’s particularly nice because he usually is fully dressed

#58

hmm… I’m setting up to try his protocol in the fall but will stick mostly to liver and marrow and bone broth. I have to work my way up to it, and not so much because of the organs! The big deal for me is to completely cut out dark chocolate, which you think I would know how to do by now…

I can eat cooked liver, but haven’t managed raw. To be fair, I’ve never tried it so maybe I should give it a shot. Nice to see that it’s working for you!

Interesting about histamine issues with grass-fed. I hadn’t heard that before.

#59

I’m not surprised since the majority of veg diets are deficient in nutrients and this doesn’t prove that creatine increases cranial size; just that it makes the brain more efficient. Creatine can easily be made from sufficient Arginine and glycine.

I mainly don’t believe meat increases cranial size because fish and/or whole nuts/oily seeds were the only foods which improved my cursive handwriting in drastic ways. I also noticed that eating more Omega 3’s to Omega 6’s caused my cursive handwriting to become sloppy as if I should be writing Chinese while eating more Omega 6’s to Omega 3’s made my cursive handwriting impeccable and legible.

I’ve also noticed the penmanship of some youtube carnivores to be subpar. They write their 2’s with the loop which I can’t anymore because it is very inefficient.

(Edith) #60

Yeah, I eat grass fed and my nose stuffs up, I get itchy, and my pulse rate increases. It’s the same reaction when I have too much histamine containing foods. Sigh.

I do marrow and bone broth, too; but not so much since the pandemic started. I plan on getting those back in my diet this fall.
