Carb ups?

(Cate ) #1

Does anyone out there do night time carb ups as suggested by Leanne Vogel in “the Keto Diet”?

I’m in a serious plateau and considering this…or maybe I should just cut down on my fat intake!

That one is new to me. What would be the purpose of carbing up at night?

Stalls are part of the process. Weight loss is a side effect of keto, not the primary function. If you’re already following the keto WOE, then you’re eating fat to satiety, so if you cut back on fat then you’d either need to replace it with something else, or go hungry.

Not only is going hungry all the time a miserable way to live, if you do it long enough your metabolism will slow down and you’ll find it even tougher to lose.

Have you tried fasting? That often helps to break a stall.

I’m cutting my fats and breaking my stall. Two pounds away from maintenance. I use chronometer.

I swell and develop cravings when I carb above 20 G. In fact, I do better with 10 G carbs and 75-80 percent fat and keeping protein to 0.8 G per kg of lean mass. I have gained lean muscle even with this low amount of protein. I didn’t lose my last bit until I was healthy (takes time to heal) and I upped fats and decreased protein.

I also experience muscle soreness in the absence of exercise. I haven’t had a dead scan but I consistently use the same body fat calculator and measure consistently. I also have areas that have tightened up so I do believe I have gained lean mass. Will follow.

Sure. Periodic Carb intake for metabolic purposes has been around for nearly two decades. It works well to break stalls. Many just eat carbs on the Weekends, and avoid stalls all together. Some just go into Maintenance for a while to give their metabolism a break. There’s nothing wrong with any of the techniques, but the concept appears to drive the “Nutty Keto Dogma” types over the edge.

There’s a huge metabolic difference between carbs on the weekend and carbs every evening.

I would try extended fasting before I attempted to carb up, that’s just redundant.

Listened to a 2Dudes podcast where they said at some point you have to cut the fat, That’s what I did, and I’m at maintenance.
