Carb manager app

(Jeanine) #1

Hi all… I have a question. I faithfully use my carb manager app. It’s my holy grail. My question is. When I scan an item and it gives me a keto grade of “A” , am I good to go. I have a problem trusting what it says all the time. Can I trust the grades on the app???

Not sure how to answer past, it can be used as incentive to do well. I use the app and really like it.

I don’t really look at the grades. I just try to make sure the data for macros is correct so that I can roughly guage what I’m ingesting. Probably most important to pay attention to carb values. Lower ones receive an A. But the grades don’t really mean much on their own, other than its a low net carb food. What’s more important, imo, is what your cumulative carbs are for the day.

I agree with @kandescent, the bottom line is do all the grades add up to less than 20 (net) carbs per day? You can try entering everything you think you might eat today and see where you end up. You don’t want to eat yourself into a corner and have no carbs left at dinnertime… unless you are ok going carnivore for your last meal of the day.

No.

it can’t know how much you’re having, what you’re having it with, what you had for other meals, etc…

I get that. But sometimes in the supermarket I like to scan an item to see if it’s ok…

But my point is that it doesn’t ACTUALLY tell you that, because it can’t.

I have been using the same app since day 1. I’m not that far in but one thing that has helped me is number 1 turn on the decimal reading on the app (drinking the Kool-Aid a lil too much maybe). 2. I weigh absolutely everything with the exception of hardboiled eggs or bacon, I usually use the single unit serving on the app. My scale is my lifesaver. I was cutting my lettuce, cabbage, and broccoli way lower than I needed because I was afraid of eating too many carbs. The app and the scale combined are necessary for success, at least for me (I’m the weird guy weighing in restaurants). I bought a cheap scale from walmart with some cheap store brand Tupperware of various sizes. I weigh everything out on one night a week, usually sauces and cheeses using the scan feature on the app then I write the weight of the item on the lid and I’m good to go for the week. The item is saved in the app so as I eat I can just add it to that days log. I do weight them and package them separately so I can add or pull back regarding my macros based on that days eating.
