Iv been doing keto since April of 2018 and I was very faithful until about November December . Sometimes I cheat - sometimes a couple days other times it’s been a week. However I can always tell when I’m going back in keto but recently since January when I cheat and go back keto I don’t feel a thing so I don’t know if I’m ever really going back into ketosis, when I go back keto and then cheat I can feel something - like super tired and groggy but going back keto I feel nothing . Any explanation for this ?

Use strips to confirm ketosis, if ur fat adapted and eat carbs ull prolly feel ketoflu-like symptoms as it aint ur primary fuel anymore. Also keto is a lifestyle not a diet, if u wanna keep eating other stuff ull end up going in and out of ketosis or at the very least having unnecessary insulin spikes and that kind of defeats the purpose of keto but do as u like.
Well no, because when you are fat adapted, your body uses those ketones rather than wasting them through your urine so they are a very unreliable source.
She’s been keto for almost a year, I think she is aware of that, why patronise her?
This is not the purpose of Keto. The purpose of the ketogenic diet is to force the body into a fat-burning state — burning fats instead of carbohydrates for fuel. Controlling insulin is part of it but not the purpose.
Without telling how many carbs you are actually eating it’s difficult to assume, have you tried testing with a blood meter? They’re more reliable than sticks but once fat adapted are a bit useless, but still a good measure to test your ketones if you’ve been in and out for awhile.
They are only useless for testing accurate ammounts of ketones and thats not the point, when u get kicked out of ketosis ur liver stops producing ketones until the glucose is burnt and itll give u negative strip during that period (specially when her cheats are multiple days).
Shes starting to adopt cheating to her regimen (sometimes even up to a week of cheating) for the first time which means on paper shes now treating keto lifestyle as a diet (be it unknowingly or not) and has no idea of its effects.
You can turn that around to as many directions for zero useful reasons as u want, what i ment with my sentence is that the constant cheating defeats the purpose keto lifestyle and insulin spikes are the byproduct of the cheating. I wonder if she is aware of what u just said after that 1 year.
