Hi guys
I’m an engineering masters student and currently work in Data and between work and studying I literally have no time to exercise. I feel like I should be exercising when trying to lose weight, is exercise on keto majorly important? Would it be ok for me to just keto diet and when I hit a plateau or lose 40ish pounds exercise to redesign my body ?
I’m sorry I probably could try and find some biology’s research studies but my brain and biology don’t sit well it’s a mathematicans struggle
Can’t find time to exercise
While I highly recommend exercise for heart health and many other health benefits, it is not vital to exercise to lose weight on Keto. If you can’t find time now, it’s more important to start your Keto journey than to wait until you have time to combine it with exercise.
Exercise not necessary. I couldn’t exercise when I started because of so much joint pain caused by inflammation.
After keto-ing a while, you’ll find that you’ll feel an urge to “move” (not always or necessarily “exercise”). Once more movement starts (taking stairs, power walking, parking your car at the far end of the parking lot, etc.), then exercise naturally begins to take shape and you’ll find a way/time to do it to satisfy that urge.
My joint pain was gone in my first week! That alone would probably have kept me ketoing. By week three I had so much energy I wanted to exercise, so I started walking whenever I could.
March or run on the spot whenever you get that chance–very little bit of movement helps.
This might answer your question.

You don’t need to exercise if you don’t wish to but I found for myself a moderate walk of 20 minutes a day, twice if I have the time is beneficial in other ways. It gets your circulation moving, helps to clear any edema in the legs, good for clearing the head, you feel a lot fitter after only 2 weeks. You’ll read that plenty of people here are running, weight training, and working out, and there are those who cannot for various reasons but its personal choice. Many here can testify to losing weight without exercise.
The exercise I recommend to people with not much time to exercise is the kettlebell swing. It takes about 30 seconds to do 20 swings. Just doing 20 swings will raise your heart rate significantly. Ideally, you’d do a number of sets of these, but if you only have time for a single set, that’s better than nothing. If you do multiple sets, take a short rest - no longer than 30 seconds - between each set.
Kettlebells are compact and can be placed against a wall or perhaps under a bed. There are other movements that may be performed too, but the swing is a good place to start.
Do some burpees if you want a movement which uses no equipment.
You don’t actually need to exercise to lose weight and put on muscle with this WOE. Do it, by all means, when you have time and feel the desire to. But-- worrying about it is counterproductive at this point. Until you are fat adapted–eat fat (and lots of it), take electrolytes, listen to inspiring podcasts or read books, and get enough sleep.
It’s not essential but is beneficial. Don’t put yourself off by thinking you have to dedicate a certain amount of time each day, just work with what you have. Body weight squats every time you go into the toilet, press-ups against the wall whenever you walk into a certain room - just examples of the little things you can do that take no time at all but will still help you.
I imagine this is what most people think, I know I did. It’s only when you understand the basics of science that creates fat stores and how you put your body into fat burning, that it becomes clear being overweight is actually little to do with not exercising and more to do with breaking yourself and causing a Metabolic syndrome!
Dumbbell or barbell complexes can provide a quick (but intense) workout too. Here’s one example using dumbbells:
