I guess it’s hugely a matter where a person in the world live, but for example - I love to snack pumpkin seeds by company California from Lidl store, which states having 3g of carbs per 100g, 0 sugar. It kicked me out off ketosis, so I googled how much carbs pumpkin seeds do have and founded out 54g.
Another example can be a coccoa powder, I’m skeptical about 14g carbs, but the list is actually quite large.
Do you have similar experiences?
Can nutrition fact labels be trusted?
Yes, but that obviously can’t make next to infinite weight (54->3g/0g).
I looked up a bunch of different sources for pumpkin seed nutrition and the carb amount varies by a crapton. I looked up the California pumpkin seeds you said you got, it said 7g/100g net carbs, Wikipedia said 54g for generic pumpkin seeds, three other sites gave 9g, 34g and 26g for generic seeds. If it was just either high or low that would be understandable, there would just be two different foods called “pumpkin seeds” that had different nutritional values. This seems to be all over the place and I can’t find anything telling me if they’re actually different foods or not.
That is what I’ve found too.
The issue is the same applies for plenty of other foods.
I’ve had a similar issue with pumpkin seeds. Even though they were listed as pretty low carb (I don’t remember specifics) each time I ate them my evening blood glucose went up by 10 - 15 points. Too bad - I really enjoyed them…
Hi Jan,
I’ve loved them as my evening snack too. Right now I eat almonds instead and love them even more
The issue is that e.g. cocconut chips varies as greatly in nutrition labels, as well as cocoa beans and cocoa power (like cocoa drink in the evening and cookies).
And some food varies as much as 20x in carbs…
