Can I vent?

I’ve been strict keto for 10 days now, after following mostly low carb. I watched Mr Eric Westman video where he says to only eat 20g total carbs and go easy on the nuts and fats. I use MFP so I know my calories are about 500 cal a day deficit and protein about 80-100g, but usually on the lower scale. I’m in ketosis as I use the urine tester and I have a blood tester. I don’t use the blood tester very often as its too expensive, but I’m in ketosis .2-.4mmol. The scales don’t move nor does the tape measure. Humphh!!
Having said that, I feel great. I suffered from GERD for 20+ years, and I have weaned myself off Nexium. If I adopt the Keto WOE, I don’t feel even a tinge of heatburn. Nice!
I know keep calm and keto on. I will as I don’t feel I have any alternatives, but man, my body loves it’s fat and it is very disheartening. I should throw those scales away.

Vent all you want!

Here is what I think might be going wrong - only 10 days in you are likely not fat adapted (low ketone measurements show you are going that way but it is a 6 week plus process).

Protein might need to be a bit lower - 1 gram per kilogram of your lowest healthy body weight is the usual suggestion unless you are a gym rat bent on adding a lot of muscle.

A calorie deficit while being not fat adapted might cause metabolic slowdown and weight retention. If I were you, I would take in 500 extra calories per day - very high fat, for 6 weeks and really clamp down on any non-incidental carbs (i.e. only carbs from green leafy vegetables).

THEN - once fully fat adapted - skip meals once in a while (which will feel natural and okay).

I haven’t weighed myself since I started in September, but I have used a tape measure and inches are gone. I’m sure if I weighed myself I’d probably weigh more because I’m convinced my bones are half lead.

Also, you’ve only been doing it for 10 days and it’s not such a shock to your system as it would be for a full on carb addict. You were already low carb. You may not see that drastic water weight loss others see.

Keep on keeping on and remind yourself of all the benefits, not just weight loss.

Thanks everyone. Yeah… keep calm and keto on. I am 61 years old. It is the only woe that has ever worked for me. It just seems to get harder and harder as we age. When I first went keto in 2009, it was virtually zero carbs, done under supervision, and I lost 10kg of pure fat, increase muscle mass, all in 13 weeks. Fast forward to 2018, and it just won’t budge. I think my next effort before Xmas will be to try virtually zero carbs :thinking:again.

So you’ve got the low carb way of eating down, but have you changed your activity level? We can only limit calories/carbs so much (or fast the crap out of ourselves). Eventually we have to start building muscle and sculpting. I’m not there yet, but I know it’s in my future.

I had the same issue! I expected the fat to just melt off! It really didn’t! I’m 49 yo woman and I think my body likes to hold on to an extra 10 to protect itself!
I finally started seeing a difference after a month. My scale broke so I might actually be the same weight but my clothes fit differently and people are noticing I’m thinner. I think for some of us our bodies just let go of weight much more slowly. Don’t give up!
Honestly is the feeling good that motivated me to stay on it, not the weight loss.

Yes, as always, too much focus on weight. I know I feel so well, as bright as a button. I really think that I have an intolerance to all kinds of grains. When we are younger our bodies seem to just metabolize everything. Now not so. Alcohol is also a problem for me. I’d rather not drink than have to deal with the indigestion, GERD that comes from alcohol.
Time is something I have plenty of, so I will just keep on going!

Give it a good 60 days strict and you will see some changes. My clothes started getting looser after about 3 weeks. Use body measurements instead of the scale. I lost 10 lbs the first month, and the next 10 took 2 more months. But I’m down about 5 or 6 pant sizes. Be patient.
