I suspect i have food intolerances and i want to do an elimination diet to see if i improve. I also want to do keto aswell but then i will be extremely low on foods that i can eat like i wouldn’t be able to eat healthy fats like cheese, butter, avacados… etc.

I haven’t used this plan, but my niece had good success. https://drlauryn.com/keto-aip-7-day-meal-plan-what-to-eat-on-a-ketogenic-diet-when-you-have-gut-issues/

This is an extremely good thread on a long-term AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) elimination diet experiment by a couple.

Check it out and see what you can learn from it…

Its hard but you can do it! I am histamine intolerant, which knocks out 1/2 of the Keto food but I make it work because I don’t ever want inflammation again!

Hi there Cillian,

I am proof that you can do an elimination diet and stay ketogenic. The worst part is the anticipation of all the things you won’t be able to eat, but in all honesty after the first week or two, you become accustomed to the pallet you have to work with! And again, it’s only temporary. So after a month or more, you can start reintroducing things. My husband, who had severe IBS among many other issues, believes the protocol healed him to the point where he can tolerate a lot of things that we initially eliminated. Of course so far (we are not done), there are a few things that he can’t eat and may never be able to eat, but we can work around that!

There is a protocol for how to reintroduce and what to reintroduce first. So even though we eliminated all dairy initially, we are now eating butter and heavy whipping cream (yay). So the way I would prepare a keto meal for us was - plenty of olive oil, fatty meat and bacon, and liberal avocados, and coconut cream. I made a lot of thai inspired recipes. Think cauliflower rice in a rich coconut sauce!

In the version of AIP that my husband and I did, we ate lots of avocados. I think they are FODMAPS, is that why you have it on your list of “no” foods?

Here is a link to an AIP website that talks about the study that caught our attention as a treatment for my husband.

I wish you health and healing!
