So I’ve been trying to do intermittent fasting realize I’ve been doing it wrong since I’ve been putting nutpods in my tea and since I can’t do tea without at least a little almond milk and Stevia I decided to cut that out all together. I’m trying to drink as much water as I can but I need some sort of flavor. Is Mio with caffeine acceptable during IF?
Can i do Mio in my water during fasting?
Mio ingredients seem kind of scary. Can you stick to water (plus electrolytes if your fasting starts to get longer?)
Actually I just saw your note about “as much water as I can.” Be aware that water flushes out your electrolytes, so if you want to drink a lot of water you should probably add electrolytes even for IF. You can look up Keto Ade for the recipe on here.
When I first started keto I did things like Mio. I still lost weight but I did have bloat which I did not realize was from the artificial sweeteners. If it helps u stick with fasting and keto in the beginning, I say go for it. Eventually cutting it out is ideal. Until then…use the crutch but eventually have the goal to walk without the crutch.
I am not super sensitive to artificial sweeteners. I used Splenda and Mio type drink mixed often while losing weight. I know some people are sensitive to them but they never seemed to impact my weight loss or cause bloating.
I don’t think nutpods creamer will interfere much with a fast. You’re probably not using much. I use Califa Better Half unsweetened almond/coconut creamer. It’s a great alternative to heavy cream. Low calorie/fat and no carbs or protein. I’d use the nutpods over the weird Mio water drops hands down!
Well for me it wasn’t just bloat…it was not even my main concern because I did not realize it until after I removed it, that it contributed physically. What made me cut it out was it was still making me crave sweets. As a person who suffered for more than a decade from B.E.D. I had to completely cut myself off of it. I was starting to binge on keto approved sweets and fatbombs. Eventually I succumbed to the real thing eating 2 boxes of cupcakes and one whole container or oreos. Yes… This is why I had to let it go. Not just bloat. It was methadone*artificial sweeteners) to my heroin (sugar).
If you want some flavor maybe add a bit of lemon juice or about 1/4 mL of a baking extract (peppermint, strawberry, orange, cherry, etc). I’d start with 1/4 mL (use a medicine eye dropper) and experiment with what works.
Thats a fantastics idea! Never thought of that. Will adding an extract give me an insulin spike though?
Your right. Im only 6 weeks into keto so im trying to take everything slow and do what feels right. but the but at the same time I’m trying to follow the correct way of doing things. Just started IF bc im havent lost any weight past my 9 lbs in the first couple weeks. I guess easing into intermittent fasting and using a crutch is better than trying it and failing it and not doing it at all
What I drink outside of my eating period (I do 20:4 daily, two meals, lunch and supper) is Herbal Tea. There are all sorts of flavours, I drink it plain, so no calories, but you get a flavour with no sweeteners.
You can drink them hot or add icecubes and have it cold.
It’s such a small amount, it shouldn’t have any effect.
Well, it doesn’t have any carbs, so you will probably be fine… Although a surprisingly high % of the people who come to this forum, seem to have problems with artificial sweeteners ??? Hmmmm. For the rest of the general public however, problems with artificial sweeteners seem to be fairly rare. I think most of the posters here “think about artificial sweeteners too much” lol Personally speaking, I’ve never been one to base things on how “they seem, or how they feel”, but how things really are, based on the bottom line. My bottom line is, I eat / drink lots of artificial sweeteners, yet I easily lost all the weight I wanted to, feel great, and totally enjoy all the food I’m eating. In fact, I’m getting more into cooking meats (Sous Vide), baking our own Keto bread, and home roasting our own coffee… Oh, and brewing our own vanilla extract
And BTW, I hear so many people talk about how and why to kill the sweet cravings… But IMP experience, in spite of the fact that I eat some sweet keto treats here and there, when I start to get hungry, I’m not thinking about sweets. I crave BEEF ! …and then maybe some Zucchini Au Gratin… and then If I’m not completely satiated (or for a sweet aftertaste), I might have a bite or two of some kind of artificially sweetened Keto dessert. I really have zero desire to eat 2 or 3 sugar packed Maple Bars, or Apple fritters… Like I used to often do at 2 or 3 am right before I went to bed.
binge eating is not a joke. The addiction is real. And one of the reasons I will not do artificial sweeteners is because it triggers a binge. When I say a binge, I mean I am vomiting and lying in pain. Not “I’m in food coma and just lazy”. I am vomiting, I am biking from one end of Chicago to the next to try and reduce the damage. I am spending 6 hours running on a treadmill until I collapse after a binge. This is why I think about sweeteners more than most. But just like some people can drink a glass of wine here and there and not be alcoholics and are fine. i.e. my bf cannot drink at ALL. I can drink a glass(although I won’t anymore) and be fine. I’m not addicted. He is. He won’t even do non-alcoholic beverages because he will want the real thing. Same with artificial sweeteners. I won’t demonize people who do… and heck even with the little bloat I had… I probably would accept it and just deal with it. But the bingings it led to for someone like me? I can’t touch it. binge eating disorder is serious and no laughing matter Talk about “experience”. I have loads. Unfortunately. And binge eating is terrifying and sad.
I used to have ridiculous binges on all kinds of carbage too. Fortunately, artificial sweeteners apparently have no effect on me wanting to binge now. Like I say, if I were going to binge on something (where I have to be careful) is eating WAAY too much tri tip, or brisket…
mine was much more than ridiculous. It ruined a good decade of my life.
