I had a very large meal that consisted of 44g protein, 14g carbs and 107g fat. This will probably be all I eat today as it has been 8 hours and I’m still not hungry. I tested my blood ketones and glucose 2.5 hours later and was at .3 mmol and 100mg/dl, respectively. I exercised for about 30 min prior to making breakfast. I hadn’t eaten for 15 hours prior to breakfast. I’ve been keto since March and my urine strips are always positive (although I understand they are inaccurate I am too cheap to always test my blood). So, I’m wondering if the quantity of food I ate this morning could be the reason why my blood ketones are only at .3 today? I wish I had tested yesterday but I didn’t…so I don’t really have anything recent to compare against. I’m not worried or frustrated just more curious. Does a really large meal cause a problem? Should I have waited longer after eating to test? Any suggestions are appreciated!
Can a large quantity of food kick me out of ketosis?
Apparently some people can’t process more than 30g protein in one meal so more than that isbused for gluconeogenisis, which yes, can kick you out of ketosis. This certainly seems to be the case for me when I’ve tested it out but don’t know if it’ll affect you the same way.
Does it really matter all that much? You can be in letosis and not lose fat; and vice vetsa, you can NOT be in ketosis and lose fat just fine.
Chase results, not ketones. Just my opinion though!
It only matters b/c I am curious and because I am seeking results from nutritional ketosis other than fat loss alone- energy, anti-inflammatory, brain boosting/healing.
Thanks! So maybe protein is what I need to pay most attention to when feasting (other than keeping carbs low of course).
