Calorie Counting Maintenance

Hi Keto Pals

I am still in the weight loss phase of me Keto journey. I have no doubt that I will reach my goal weight. However I looked at the scale today and realized that I am only 38 pounds away from my goal. This is HUGE considering that when I started, I needed to lose 100 pounds. But now I am more than halfway to goal and I’m starting to panick about how to keep the weight off once I get to goal. Once I get to goal weight, is that when I need to start counting calories? Is that when I need to eat to maintenance for calories? I plan to continue to eat Keto and IF daily with EF occasionally but Ive noticed during the weight loss stage that once I start eating everyday, the pounds pack back on. So how do I keep my weight off? Is this when I need to dive deeper into exercise? I know I am looking far ahead but I really want to be prepared when I hit goal. I truly don’t know what to do and I don’t have any type of plan. That scares me

Counting calories is disordered behavior, not a healthy way to approach a maintenance state. If you have gotten this far losing weight, why do you think eating the same way will make you regain the weight? Key is to not go back to eating the way that messed you up in the first place.

I lost weight mostly through fasting. Is that what I will need to continue to do?

Sorry, I missed that part. Tried to delete my post because it wasn’t really helpful, appears not to have worked though. Anyway, are you sure you put on pounds of fat when you go back to normal eating? Could just be water storage. Something to keep in mind is chronic dieting and fasting can slow your metabolism. So when you’re ready to maintain you may need to take a temporary scale hit in order to get your metabolism accustomed to eating more.

Why are you only loosing when fasting? Are you in ketosis when eating? It might be worth reviewing what you are eating - ratios carbs/proteins/fats - types of fats. Eat to satiety - how do you feel after eating? (lethargic, bloated - energetic?) Are you snacking? Are you hungry before eating or eating out of habit?
These are questions worth asking now while you are still in weight-loss mode to reprogram disarranged systems and bad habits - . Fasting is a tool to reduce insulin resistance and activate autophagy and rest the body (and a whole tonne of other reasons) but using it only as a method of weight loss is missing the point and perhaps setting up a difficult time as you transition into maintenance mode. You’ve done so well - no criticism implied - just sharing thoughts. Good luck with the last 38 pounds. Woo hoo
