Hi, I’ve been on board with the ketogenic lifestyle since August 2017 and love listening to any podcasts about the keto lifestyle. I’m seeing terrific improvements for myself but this question relates to an 82 year old gentleman whom I am working with on a project - yes, he is still working!. He told me he is diabetic and has calcified veins. I am curious if the ketogenic lifestyle would help him. Thoughts? Thanks!
Calcified veins
Do some online research on vitamin K2 and how it can improve arterial calcification. I serve on the board of an integrative medicine clinic at a university health system in the Midwest. That’s where I heard about it.
I use the Thorne liquid K2.
Since the calcification is a response to arterial inflammation, I believe that a well-formulated ketogenic diet would most likely help your friend to some degree at least, even if the damage is too great at this point to be fully healed. By lowering insulin levels, the ketogenic diet would allow inflammation to subside and some (unknown) degree of healing to take place. What we can absolutely say for sure is that a ketogenic diet certainly won’t hurt! Good luck to your friend, and I hope you are able to help him.
