Caffeine/Coconut Oil Diuretic

food

Hi,
Keto has worked fine for me for years.
I usually have yerba matte tea and a cup of weak coffee with breakfast in the morning. Lately the coconut oil along with those two caffeinated drinks has acted like a diuretic though, so I’m going to have to eliminate the coffee and just have my coconut oil supplements later in the day. This is going to be huge for me since I’ve been drinking coffee for much longer than I’ve been on the keto diet!
Has anyone else had this happen?

Coconut oil as a diuretic? Not sure.
Coconut oil as a laxitive? Definately. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Caffeine is a mild diuretic. The more you have, the higher it’s effects. Is it possible you’re simply drinking more fluids so it seems like these two drinks are acting more as a diuretic?

No.

Yesterday I added 1 1/2 teaspoon of organic flax and chia mix to my diet, and all is solved. I may have encountered a fiber deficiency here. Does any body else supplement with a fiber supplement? I’ve heard now psyllium husk works as well.

I do not add a fiber supplement, and in fact I eat virtually zero fiber. I do carnivore and never consume fiber.

Psyllium husk works well, the ever popular Metamucil relies on it too. A lot of people have trouble drinking the glass full before it starts to bulk up, so two smaller doses are better. Or, capsules are available too. Plain psyllium has 1.3 grams of carbs and 1.1 grams of fiber.

Thanks!
I just ordered some psyllium husk caps to try.

I think there may be something to that! I’m drinking 2-3 liters of water per day.

We don’t all have the same gut or the same flora living there. Many have damage to the lining of the gut. Fiber helps the gut process the food when there is an issue. I don’t suppose you need it when there is no issue. My gut is damaged from an extended period of taking antibiotics to combat chronic Lyme disease, and it will never be the same, no matter how much new flora I introduce. I don’t need fiber all the time, but there are periods where I need it badly. And, yes, drinking lots and lots of fluids is very helpful too.
