Hey All! So I’m 4 weeks in and down 12 lbs with keto noms & periodic 36 hr fasting. Pretty stoked about that. My only trouble thus far is how difficult it is to find a ketone meter in NJ. Everyone carries the glucose only meters. Even online everyone has the ketone testing strips but not the actual meters. Grrr. Sooooo I placed on order for one of the few I could find on Amazon (ellishbooks) and when tracking it, found out it shipped from Latvia. Oh … freaking great. It is now sitting hostage at a USPS NYC sorting center for 5 days. >:\ I am now slightly less than confident that it will find its way to me. (The strips were already delivered) Even on e-bay all I can find are ones shipping from other countries with epic transit times. Does anyone have source for buying a Freestyle Optimum Neo in the US?
Buying an Abbott Ketone Meter in the US
@LouiseReynolds maybe able to help out here. I believe that the Freestyle Optimum Neo and Precision Xtra strips are compatible. But, I could be wrong. I buy my strips from her, and I believe they are for the Freestyle Optimum Neo. I have the Precision Xtra Meter.
It’s been my experience that the US prices are astronomical, hence the shipping from other countries. Being down under, we have our National Diabetes program, which Abbotts has a handy market share in for meters (you can get cash back) and strips. If you qualify, the government will subsidise your blood glucose strips. The ketone strips are not subsidised but by comparison are cheaper than US and UK prices. Yes, the Abbott strips are compatible for your Precision Xtra metre.
Thank you both! Mine was finally released from customs jail after 7 days and I’m very happy with it. You couldn’t be more right about the price. $30.00 for a pack of 10 strips.
I bought more Precision Xtra blood ketone strips today (for my Abbott meter) for $1.22/strip at http://stores.ebay.com/Anneecakes-Ketone-Strips . I can’t believe how much the prices have come down-- this is really the cheapest price I have seen ever. I have a Relion meter, too (to keep in my gym bag) and the Abbott (Precision Xtra) ketone strips work with that, too.
