Hi, I’m 5 weeks in, lost 5 pounds the first week and have not budged the scale since (looking for 20lbs loss). I hate tracking macros but need to at least figure out if I’m in ketosis and ultimately fat adapted. My morning hunger is sparse at best and can be handled with BPC if needed so I suspect I’m fat adapted but I’m not losing weight. Will be adding exercise in hopes of getting things moving but wondered for those of you who test, which do you prefer, the breath analyzer or blood testing considering cost and accuracy.
Breath Analyzer vs Blood Testing
Someone looking to lose only 20 lbs will lose it much slower than someone who needs to lose 100. 5 weeks is not very long. Just make sure to keep you carbs under 20g a day and be patient. Focus on things happening that can’t be measured by the scale. Are you sleeping better, do you have more energy, are your clothes fitting better? I put on a pair of pants that were very tight a couple weeks ago and fit perfect this last week. Funny thing is the scale didn’t move.
Thank you @Hapygirl, I am feeling better. I don’t have the mid afternoon slump and feel like my waist is slimming…I haven’t measured yet so I definitely need to track that. The NSV are a good thing!
BHB in the blood is the gold standard for measuring ketosis. It’s the most accurate, the least prone to user error/interpretation, and doesn’t become less effective over time. Its also an unnecessary expense for most people. I am not one of those people.
Over the course of my weight lose journey, I tracked a host of variables (ie. weight, BG, BK, bodyfat, sleep, HR, activity level) on at least a daily basis. I found that changes in weight were most closely correlated with BG level changes. If I could pick only one tool to use, it would be a glucometer (I used a cheap $10 meter from Walmart with 5 cent strips). It gave me guidance on all my efforts (eating, fasting, exercise, food) and was instrumental to my success.
