Brain Cancer and Keto - Help me find a doctor!

#1

There is a 3 year old girl in our friend circle with DIPG, a 100% fatal brain cancer. Her family has gone Keto and are looking for direction from a doctor in how to navigate this difficult situation. The doctors I have found online are mostly for weight loss - is anyone familiar with a doctor who would know about brain cancer and also knows about the Ketogenic diet? I know about Keto for weight loss in adults, not Keto for brain cancer in a 3 year old sweetheart. Thanks. <3

Oh no!!
Nasha Winters works with cancer patients and I’m sure there are others that I can’t find right now but will look up, and you’ll probably get more suggestions. Did you look at the cancer part of the forum?
Heartbreaking, a 3yo with brain cancer. That poor family…

Have you read through the Cancer section under Health? Some good info on previous threads. From a Diet standpoint, there are also Nutritionists who specialize in Cancer. The book Keto for Cancer, is written by woman whose son was diagnosed with brain cancer at 4. https://www.dietarytherapies.com There are some Keto Oncologists https://www.ketooncologist.com/en_US/ and a number of Integrative Treatment centers. https://www.oregonio.com. And check the Max Love Project, they had plans to work with a childrens’ hospital in SC. http://www.maxloveproject.org and. http://www.maxloveproject.org/culinary-medicine
There are the major Cancer centers, some known for pediatric, others for brain, most have nutritionists some with Keto experience.

EDIT: The top cancer centers, https://www.cancer.gov/research/nci-role/cancer-centers. Just from general reputation I would have said Duke and DanaFarber, and when I googled DIPG, Dana Farber was the first hit. http://www.danafarberbostonchildrens.org/conditions/brain-tumor/diffuse-pontine-glioma.aspx Indicating some expertise in that type, their patient information is excellent.

First of all that SUCKS! I can’t even imagine what that kids parents are going through. In the medical setting they do the REAL Ketogenic diet, they may want to tweak hers vs the way their doing it typically 90% fats and 0 carbs. I know Thomas Seyfried has said in interviews that he reads and answers his emails himself , may be able to connect them with somebody. I know there’s a lot of people fighting the death sentence stages of cancer with obviously keto but also a lot of hyperbaric therapy to fry the cancer cells. Also many do a lot of exogenous ketones, goal between all of it is sustained high ketone levels.

You might try this. It’s a clinical trial. Even if they’re not accepting patients they might have some resources.

Definitely contact the investigator of that Nicklaus clinical trial that Karen posted. I also remembered this article about other researchers in Brain Cancer. There is info linked about the doctor in Alberta who treated Adam Sorensen. The Charlie Foundation, which began with dietary treatments for children with epilepsy, now covers metabolic therapies for other diseases. They have a list of nutritionists who specialize in Keto diets, and as Karen wrote may know the doctors your friends may want to contact. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/brain-cancer

Alison Gannett has survived brain cancer, follows a keto lifestyle. She is a good source of information and she works with Nasha Winters at the naturopathic end of the spectrum.

If you want a conventional doctor with numerous (in the region of 40 plus) documented Stage 4 cancer cures under his belt, there is currently nobody better than Dr. Abdul Slocum at the ChemoThermia Clinic in Istanbul,Turkey. Dr Slocum recommends a ketogenic diet, IV vitamin C supplementation and Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment.

As regards Vitamin C supplementation, Liposomal Vitamin C from Livon labs is a good option at about $1 per 1,000 mg sachet. The use of Vitamin C is based on the theories of Linus Pauling. Pauling recommended megadoses orally, IV is better but Liposomal is even better still at small doses; a 1,000mg sachet should be very effective for such a young child. Note: The tolerable upper intake of Vitamin C for a 4-8 year old is 650mg according to the US(?) Food and Nutrition Board

Thanks, everyone! I’ve passed on all of the info to the parents and they will sift through it and see what might work for their little one.
