Boylan Soda

#1

Would something like this be ok to drink once in a while?

Boylan 12 oz. Diet Cane Cola 12pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001BVOL2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xrqzCbCDYRHH7

0 carbs according to the label

Ingredients are carbonated water, caramel color, natural flavors, phosphoric acid, sodium benzonate, sucralose, caffeine, acesulfame potassium

If not what is the ingredient that makes it not keto friendly even though it’s 0 carbs and has no aspartame?

I randomly found one of these at some hipster restaurant the other day and it’s really good. I’ve been trying to keep the Diet Coke to a bare minimum because of the aspartame (I’ve been having it a couple times a month)

Splenda is a popular sweetener with sucralose in it and while it may not spike your blood glucose, it is likely to spike your insulin level. If your goal is weight lose, avoiding sucralose is probably a good idea. The more often our insulin is active, the less chance we have for our body to access fat storage.

As a rule of thumb, I try avoid anything artificial with an ‘ose’ suffix. Dextrose and sucralose leave me a tiny bit bloated but this may not be the case for everyone.

One of these sugar substitutes might cause you trouble. Not everyone reacts with an insulin spike to the same sugar substitute, but some people find that a particular sugar substitute causes their insulin to spike, which is what we’re eating a ketogenic diet to prevent.

Although there is no way to measure insulin directly at home, you can infer what your insulin is doing from the pattern of your glucose levels taken periodically for a couple of hours after ingesting the substance in question.

P.S.—Dextrose is another name for glucose, or blood sugar; the other -oses are related but different chemical compounds (fructose, maltose, sucrose, lactose, galactose, etc.).

Names ending in -ol are types of alcohol, and most people have to count at least half the sugar alcohols in a product (maltose is a sugar, maltitol a sugar alcohol) against their carb limit.
