Bored and want to eat

(Ellen) #1

Am at work, and unusually I’m actually ahead of myself, so am pretty bored and that’s triggered me wanting to eat, it’s not hunger it’s purely psychological. Thankfully I don’t have any food at work and refuse to ask someone to go to a shop for me, but it’s annoying. In days of yore, this is when I’d have been stuffing my face with a second sandwich / crisps etc. I can’t even take a half day as only 2 of us in the office today.

That’s it, whinge over (for now).

That’s my plan

Green tea works surprisingly well for me to keep the psychological and real hunger away. Might there be some in the office kitchen?

Ooh, hadn’t thought of that, was just planning on sitting here shouting at myself in my head, I’ll have a look, thanks.

I used to keep chicken bouillon granules at my desk.

The less you eat the less hungry you get.
Learn to ignore excessive unhelpful food cravings. They were useful for cavemen, and just unhelpful for most people now.
Smokers have to go through nicotine cravings while quitting.

THIS!!! :sunglasses:

That’s a habit I had too, it broke over time, but man it took forever lol! Anymore I eat salt and drink tea when I get that way.

 This. Ellen, I’d be heading to a fast-food place in the late morning, before they switched to the lunch/dinner menu and stopped making breakfast sandwiches. Boredom, old habits/cravings = potent forces aligned against us.

Now I’m home and about to stick my nose in a book (can never be bored when you have books) my brain has stopped telling me to eat, which is good cos my stomach really didn’t like that idea.

It is strange isn’t it. I was a way on the weekend and we self catered. I got these waves of satiety it continued after the meal. I kept thinking “I am glad to feel full but this is strange.” I am used to being hungry.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #13

I know! It’s very strange!

I did need to be more conscious not to eat because I was bored or out of habit. But often I did not want to because I felt so satiated.

So true!

I have the same problem. Not at work - the work keeps me busy, but at home. I just keep sitting at internet and as it’s not serious reading (like a novel) and i am aware there’s food in the house. It’s not hunger, I can bear hunger and it’s true that the less I eat the less hungry I get, but again, it’s rather on the dayss i’m out of the house and keep busy. I can deal with that and hunger. It’s when I am bored at home on my day off. No matter what activity I pursue. It is becoming bad and I never reach ketosis or anywhere near low carb just because I’m feeling comfortable with filling my stomach. Should I start not storing food and buying literally just for the day or day ahead what I consume? What activities would you advise to keep me thinking about food? I don’t excercise at home, only light stretching now and then.

You could try reading, going for a walk etc, the boredom cravings do dissappear after a while, you just need to find what works for you, but would def recommend only having keto food at home. Hope you find your solution.
