Bone Broth or Low-Sodium broth on an extended fast?

(Lauren Mehrtens) #1

Hi there! I’m doing a 21 day fast and I’m on day 8. I’m at the point where I’m needing more energy to keep up with my work schedule and was wondering if I could just have Low-Sodium broth instead of bone broth? Bone broth is just so hard to consume for me, but I don’t want to ruin my fast. I’m doing it mostly for weight loss, so if I need to stick to bone broth I will if I have to. Let me know!

Have you done much fasting in the past? Why low sodium? You usually want extra salt during a fast.

I agree with Mike, you absolutely need extra salt during a fast.

I have done multiple 3 day fasts and two 7 day fasts. I haven’t gone so long to where I needed broth. I mostly chose the low-sodium for the non-fat aspect, but I didn’t know salt was that necessary. Thanks for the heads up!

Can I ask if you are running out of energy why are you extending the fast? Are they giving out 21 days fast badges?

That’s been my goal the whole time…I’m not “extending” anything.

I’ve tried fasting (only up to 5.5 days, my blood pressure dropped too low) both with and without broth. I find broth makes me hungry, but I also will take in salt and other minerals, even magnesium if needed.

@Lauren_Mehrtens try supplementing with some fat. Not sure what your body fat percentage is but some people with lower amounts of fat need a little while they fast.
Congratulations on your progress so far!!
